Post hot day or fuel tank prob?

Howdy!

Driving my Au3 Forte home today, after an hours work in the hot sun, i noticed the fuel tank cover panel had popped open. No dramas, I thought, must have knocked the button instead of the boot button. When i tried to close it, it kept springing open, as the latch was not catching. I opened the fuel tank cap, and the tank gave out a gust of air as it depressurized. I tried shutting the cover panel and this time it shut fine. Been out for another smaller drive, exactly the same thing has happened again. It appears the buildup of air inside the tank had moved the fuel tank nozzle enough that it was interferring with the latch.

Has this happened to anyone else? Simply a hot day or is it something worth getting checked out?? What would cause increased pressure in the fuel tank like this??

Jono

normally happens on older cars so not sure, but try not doing up the cap all the way thats how older cars could be fixed

ur cap isnt releasing the presure properly, replace the cap. a call to ford should give u the right pressure caps. its the same when u have a faulty radiator cap, u need the correct pessure rated cap for the system to work correctly.

cheers guys. I suspect it might have been because I had the tank very full as well. The cap is the same genuine ford one as always fitted. Perhaps something is jammed in it and needs replacing. I'll see how I go.

Mine dose that as well. I've taken it back to Ford a few times, it all right for a while but it starts doing it again. I've given up on it. It really only dose it on hot days.
