I'll be driving the bum-dragger up to QLD staying in Broadbeach between 14-20th Jan, staying with the GF's family.
I've been up there before and pretty much seen all the theme parks etc as a kid so they don't really interest me, although if one was to reccomend a park to see again as a 20yo what would it be. Also whats the clubbing scene like up there. Someone I know though work is a resident DJ at Quest, so I'll be checking that out. Any other good clubs. Pacific Fair and Jupiters any good? Any good day trips to be had? Things to remember when driving in QLD? Any good street scene locations? Cheers, Chris |

Pacific Fair is pretty good as is jupiters. I was in qld last march i went to all theme parks except dreamworld, wet and wild is worth going to again. We went up to noosa and moolooaba to Underwater world. If you want some bargains head to harbourtown about 15 mins from Surfers big shopping centre (half outside) thats pretty good, or DFO at brissy airport. Safe travelling

It was a few years back, but the day trip to Tamborine Mountains was ok.
The drive to Coolangatta and around the border of NSW was good. Dreamworld again would definitely be ok for a 20yr old. Pacific Fair, at Miami Keys I think, good for 1/2 a day and a bear at the Surfers RSL. Just my opinion, you might think differently.

There are some fantastic driving roads along the way. If you can do the drive mid week because on the weekends the Kamakazies on motor bikes let loose. The police are also out and about on the weekends chasing the nuts cases on two wheels. There a plenty of country pubs for great meals along the way.

Deffinately Dreamworld as a themepark. Awesome rides and stuff. Day trips, Id go for the one mentioned above, and if you dont want to drive all the way to the Glasshouse mountains, go up and through Mt's. Glorious and Neebo. Then you come out right in brissy city so you can do stuff in brissy on the way through. Stop at Southbank and have a swim, then go watch a movie at the cineplex cinema there. The ticket prices rang from $5.50 to about $9.00 max.

Agree with mowog though, you cant go past a drive throughthe Brisbane Valley and back through sunshine coast hinterland, it would be a big day from the goldy, but you would put away maybe 300-350km and see some great roads, and with these recent smatterings of rain, it has all pretty much turned green as well... so that makes it nicer
Things to take note of, Speed Cameras are everywhere at the moment, so are the hand held radars.... use the cruise in your car... ;) Quote:

10 things I think you should do while on the GC.
(in no particular order) 1. Dinner at Draculas Restaurant 2. Shopping at Harbour Town 3. Day Trip to South Stradbroke Island/ Boat Cruise on canals and broadwater 4. Shopping at Pacific Fair 5. Visit Broadbeach Markets 6. Drive through Hinterland (either to Mt Tamborine or Springbrook) 7. Walk along the beach from Broady to the Spit (ie Seaworld) 8. One of the Theme Parks (I would suggest Dreamworld) 9. Visit Q1 and go to the observation deck. The BEST views of the Gold Coast, Day or night. (open to midnight I think) 10. Blow some money at the Casino (Jupiters) and catch their show if it interests you. There was another thread a while back in which there were lots of suggestions. This Thread As for your Questions Quote:

Make a day of driving from one end of the coast to the other, starting at Kirra, stopping at Currumbin/ Palm Beach, Burleigh, Nobbys Beach, Broadbeach (well you are staying there dont bother), Surfers, and finishing at Runaway Bay. Boat- At Sanctuary cove there is a nice canal cruise, otherwise from the Broadwater there are lots of nice 'see the gold coast' type cruises. A day trip to South Stradbroke Island is great. Quote:

Also if it floats your boat, head to Australia Zoo at Beerwah. An amazing setup! Cheers Darran

Broadbeach is tops. I've stayed there about six times. been to most places on the coast. If you love your motorsport or motoring in general, if you have time drop in to racenutz megastore. It's moved from broadbeach but Ian the owner is a cool guy.

Thanks to everyone thats replied. Bar MO's initial response, I'll keep all the ideas in mind whilst up there.
I've actually driven up there twice, once was 3 months after I got my Ls down here, drove the family up here, second time was 8 or so months later, my father rented out a BA rental that I drove the whole time up there, damn the roundabouts are massive up that way... I never knew about the 3kmh tolerance, I thought it was the 10% +3kmh over which is what HWPs ususally respond to. Quote:

Also the drive up through the GlassHouse Mountains is good ... also Montville and Maleny is nice as well. Best Fish and Chips is a little shop in the middle of Bribie Island (there's a bridge across to it from the mainland).

Just got back today from a week and a bit up there, enjoying around 75% of the aforementioned suggestions! It's great to have friends that live up there that you can mooch off .. err ... visit!
The clubbing scene (GC) is pants so don't bother. The hinterland drives are great value, and if you're of the active pursuasion, try the walk up Mount Warning near Murwillumbah. Some spectacular views from the top (if it's clear!). Other than that, all the above suggestions, plus the mandatory skin cancer sessions on the beach. The water was absolutely sensational quality despite the rain - and pretty warm too. Foodwise, I can heartily recommend the buffet at the Casino, and also the Curry Hut at Helensvale for the best Indian food in SE QLD. Keep an eye out for the discounted "Gold Class" movie tickets available at Harbourtown too - we got some for only $14 each on a Wednesday (last year)!! And to conclude, .. mmmmm ..... Meter Maids....
