Lightbulb Stuck my eyes back in my head...

Holy ****.

I've gotta send a front bar up to Townsville and got a quote from Pack and Send... you wouldn't believe how much they wanna charge to send it up there.

$600... for one front bar.

**** that. That's ridiculous. Surely it can't be that much to send something of that size...

Anyone got any ideas? I'm not paying that.

If the member who is getting the bar happens to read this, I'll sort something out.

Does that actually work though?

From what I can tell about most courier mobs, is that they don't care about how they stack the parcels...

I know some can be rough but they are the ones you don't use.

If you are really concerned, go to the shopping centre, get some cardboard boxes (you might have to actually ask them for those though), cut it so you can cover the bar.. wrap the bar first in bubble wrap, then tape the cardboard to it.. then bubble wrap it again..

I know this sounds like a pain but it actually works (someone else I know has done this and the item arrived without any dramas.

Or if you find someone you trust, ask them the best way to pack it for safety against breakages.

I heard back from them regarding if the person was to pick it up at the depot.

$350.

What a blatant ripoff.

Where do you buy bubble wrap from in huge rolls?

Bunnings hardwares if you have one local, you can cut off the length you want.

Why not give McCafferty's Coaches a ring. They transport general freight in their busses and if the Front bar is within their specifications, they might just take it for you, and their prices are definately reasonable..Depot to Depot. Polite pleading will generally help if it is a little bit outside the specs.

If you can't get to a Bunnings for bubble wrap, the Post Office also sells it.

Ummmm..... not quite matey.

They would want it cubed. Which would probably end up quite expensive. And theres no gaurentee that it would be safe. Safe from being broken and from the postal workers. Not saying all are like that but some are. Some see an Insured sticker and think "hmm something expensive and probably nice" and your parcel ends up "lost".

I deal with Aust post for work and you WOULD be better off with a courier company with a good reputation. Good luck!

Trust me ... I nearly drive a hard cover up to QLD to Kenny ... as it was going to be a paint to get a box to fir the hard cover it.

I nearly took it on the back of the ute. Just about had his own personal courier service to his door.

If sending it via courier ... box it up well ... trust me ... it NEEDS to be protected ... i know how some of the couriers load most of their stuff (without care).

I have used Good Guys with great success .... they want the old boxes gone.
Go down to them in the morning and ask for them to be put aside and pick them up later ... as they get deliveries sent out ... and the drivers come back with the empty boxes in the afternoon.

Kenny, have you tried going to some of the car dealers and smash repair places, they would be getting bumpers delivered in large boxes all the time,

cost 80 to get mine from AWC in Sydney to here.

I remember Adam used TNT to send his stuff at one point ... and he had boxes to suit bodykits as well ... not sure if he made the boxes up himself or had them especially made for him.

precicely what i was going to say go down to ya local smash repairs, and ask them to put a box asside for you......
be warned though...most courier mobs charge on size not weight....a bumper will be expensive to ship as it takes up valuable load space in the truck

Pack your bar in a box will get handled better (work 4 toll) this size freight gets hand sorted. Ring around for a freight price as pack n send generally use he big companies like ipec, tnt, startrack to ship there freight, call them n c wot they charge,Depot pick up n drop off will save u alot of money. If your work uses a transport company to ship freight ask the boss to use there account n pay 4 the freight that way. :eclipsee_

If it goes over a certain length ... it gets classed as a 1-tonne load when pricing it up for freight. Just due to awkward sizing.
Usually it's 6-foot-ish in length

General freight is quoted at 1 cubic metre = 260kg (last time i checked)

Depends ... anything over the size of one pallet is classed as 1-tonne where I work.
Not sure how it works for the overnight backhaul freight guys ... but for ad-hoc delivery.

Depends on the company .. and the prices they charge as well ... and what pricing schemes they use for different companies as well (some companies get better rates than others too.
