hi guys im new to the aufalcon forum just bought my 2001 XLS Marlin 2 weeks ago and i'm keen to start doing some mods...sooo many options!!! . i noticed on ebay last week that some guy is selling white face gauges for the au on ebay for about 80 bucks. Just wondering if this is easy enough to do yourself or whether you can run into probs when you start pulling the gauge pins out. I've heard of people mucking around with this and that they get problems where one of the gauges might stick/not respond. Anyway guys if anyway has had any luck installing one let me know how it went.

Well i've pulled my cluster out, face off, needles off a couple of time and have had no problems. The way i recalibarate it all is to put it all back together with the lens off, turn the ignition on, then adjust the needles to original values.
I've only had one needle be half funny, and that was the petrol guage. Just had to pull the needle back away from the face. However, personally i wouldn't get one of those faces. Paint the surrond and then do led lights. That together looks great.(see below) However, now my needles are white (red has been sanded off with 2000 grit) so they show up with the blue led's Cheers PS. Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you've got a nice car.

nice work... is the cluster difficult to take out? im guessing once it is out it's relatively easy to change over the leds?
i have an auto and i was also thinking of changing the leds beneath too...i've seen some photos of people putting them under the shifter. it looks pretty easy...6 screws i think... also anyone else who changed the face or modified their cluster post them so i can check em out for ideas... |

Cluster is so so to get out, can be a pain, can be easy.
As for LED's, you've got to solder resistors to the led's. then modify bulb holders, then re-install. Casper has the Tutorial/how to for it, and it should re appear on aufalcon.com soon

oh damn i thought it would be a lot easier than that for the shifter lights. Now with the cluster when you said that you put the needles back on you turned the ignition. wouldn't it be easier to do replace the needles with ignition off so everything is reset to zero? how do they come off do you just pull them off?
Has anyone got any unique mods that they've done to their interior? |

Instead of painting my instrument mask, I had it modicoated in a snakeskin pattern, along with my door handles and the trim piece above the passenger airbag. Very unique as far as I know because the pattern had to be imported for the job (luckily someone was getting a table coated in the same pattern?!?!) and unless someone has had it done since I'm it! The pieces can be seen in pics on modicoat's website, and pics of them installed via the link in my sig. Done a few other things. My manual gear shift got a new shifter, shift level, gear boot and I added the chrome ring from a tseries. Have a project underway that should spruce up the interior a bit more.
Good luck with your mods, going unique is a good thing so let your imagination go nuts!

the modicoat stuff looks great i just checked out their site. I think i might get that done once i get the cash, it's just a matter of taking out the console or dash yourself or whatever you want for them to coat. i checked out the process and it's actually dipped so it's not like cheap laminate **** or anything like that. It's about $350 for the dash, $200 for the console. I They're in Bris too!
I just went to supercheap as well and got an Ellery's manual for Ford falcons. it's great there's so many answers to questions ive had in there. It has diagrams and instructions to remove/install interior so it's great for DIY stuff. Best $40 i ever spent! |

I've seen that guy on ebay, but I'm after the XR cluster. Only problem with them is that from the photos, they dont have the tickford logo on them. I suppose I could ask if he could do it. If I get one I will let you know how it goes.
