Default One less AU on the road

Well its been nearly a year since I sold my AU Ghia having really looked after it since buying it in 2000 as a demo. I have been shown a pic of what it is like now after a Toyota RAV 4 hire car went through a red light & hit the car . The insurance wrote it of as there was major suspension damage to it the new owner which I knew through a friend is not happy about it being written off I've been told. I can understand why as it does not look that much damage to write a car off also not sure what they had valued the car at.
A pic of the car last year before I sold it & a recent pic of what it ended up shame really. Its only ever crash & it wrote it off.

must have done a lot of suspension damage to write that off...looking from that it doesn't actually look that bad, considering it's a write off

me thinks that will get snapped up at an auction somewhere, with some second hand parts that looks easy to repair and a good first car for someone.

If you look at the market value of big 6 cars (ie falcon/commodore) that gives a good indicator of what the insurance companies will do.
Did it pop the airbag? if so there's big bucks just to replace the airbag, WITHOUT doing the repairs!

That's a front gaurd actually. A car is written off when the cost to repair it exceeds the value of the car itself. :

Woah thats a shame.. I used to see this car at gym buickman.. Mint condition. As kooky said, someone will grab it and repair it, from auctions.

The suspension doesnt look like it would be that bad. When I had a little off last year and hit a gutter straight on at 50 k's and at full lock, the toe readings were -15mm and -5 mm and the camber readings were -12* and -5*. I needed a new camber caster kit, stub axle, hub, disk brake, ball joint and it was all fixed. Although one side has 3 shims on the caster kit, the other none, and it still isnt perfect. I was told my chassis was a little bent, but not to worry about it. To date Ive done about 15000 k's on it, not premature tyre wear, and the rim, although pretty badly scratched, suffered no buckle or dings or anyhting, and is still on with no tyre shake. The complete repair job was just over $1000.

I would have to agree with you there... I mean it's bad but I wouldn't of thought it would of been a write off..

I did a fair bit more damage to my car last year and AAMI repaired it for me no questions. Thats a bit harsh to write that one off.

It's a shame when much loved cars are doomed to the wreckers...

I think you might be right as no matter what you spend on the car or low Kms unless you have agreed value the insurance companies will only give market value. I sold it to near enough what I expected as the resale on the big 6's is insulting from car dealerships when trading in.

Not sure if the air bags went off but been told the other driver was on company business from Queensland. So I gather he would only get a fine for going through a red light as no one was injured & his company would pick up the bills.
What I find is wrong as people with pride in cars spend money & time looking after them so someone that only has his company or personal thoughts on his mind does not concetrate while driving a car could of killed himself & others & destroys 2 cars and would only get a fine.

That looked like a very nice car too, damn the AU market balues anything thats an AUI virually gets written off.

I wouldnt mind knowing where that car ends up though, ive been looking for a year for a Fairmont Ghia grille that hasnt been smashed but to no avail and that one is still mint.
