Default What Next?

I had problems with my 98 AU sucking the fuel DTE dropping everytime i looked at it. Was told by 3 people it was my Fuel Injectors so i've done those and the spark parks and while driving today the same thing continues to happen. I spoke to a mechanic that was a complete dick and told me my car was f'ed and wouldn't give me a price to put the diagnostic tool on it etc etc and he mentioned it could be a dud ECU.

Does anyone have ANY ideas what i can try next?

How many K's per tank are you getting. The DTE fluctuates wildly at the best of times, depending on your driving style.
As for remedies, changing your air filter, or washing it if its K&N, helps immensly if its over 10000k's old (dont listen to the 50000k's they say on the box), Oxygen sensor, plugs and leads, all these help in keeping your car sucking only the amount of petrol it needs.
Hope that helps.

The DTE is supposed to go down as you drive. But if you're getting less than 300kms per tank, it usually means it's running rich - 2 major causes of that are a stuffed MAP sensor, or a stuffed O2 sensor. If you don't know when they were last replace them, then for $200 odd for both, it's a cheap fix, though of course can't guarantee that it will fix it.

You probably really need to get the scan tool plugged in and get the error codes off. A new ECU is up around the $1000 mark, and needs to be programmed/matched to the BEM by Ford.

Well just today,$20 only got me 60k,if the D.T.E is at 95 for instance,i will turn my car off but as soon as I turn it to accesories it will say 91,drive turn it off at 85,turn back on it will say 79,sometimes i lose 10k,but on average it is 3-5 and then when the D.T.E gets to about 30k it will shudder and at about 25 she is out of fuel,my plugs came out BLACK with inch thick crud coated on them,02 sensor, fuel filter, leads and plugs all done, im out of ideas and at this rate $$

take it to a decent mechanic, G&D are local to you and won't stuff you around.

sounds like a MAP sensor failure like JC said.

maybe high fuel pressure...? too much pressure causing too much fuel to go in when the injector opens...

No the car idles quite nicely at around 900 rpm but blows black smoke EVERYWHERE when given the boot,at idle the exhaust smokes black but not a great deal and the oil is going black within 2 weeks because of carbon, originally thought/was told by a few different mechs that it was definitely the injectors so I replaced them with a reco set for $130 (which i thought was cheap!) but still the same

What temp is the engine running at? If it runs to cold it could be in wam up mode which will make it run richer.

Has to be MAP sensor, (or thermostat stuck open, but the symptoms you describe don't relly fit this issue).

thanks guys. I'm going to try a new map sensor! I'd say it would have never been replaced anyhow.
