What could $800-$1200 get me for a decent E series.
I'm just looking for something that runs and won't cost me thousands in repairs. Ebay a good place to look. Regards James |

Umm proberly not much I'd say. If you want a decent car that wont be breaking down all the time I'd be spending around the $3000 mark.
You'll be very lucky to find something in good nic for $1200 thats mechanically good as well. I'm sure you could eventually find something but good luck!

Be patient and you may find a winner for that price, i sold my XF for $300 years ago, not that there was anything wrong with it, just didn't want it anymore ( too many cars ) it continued on for another 5 years without missing a heartbeat.

Be patient mate and look around. You can find cheap cars in good condition, but you have to search around. I'd be looking for an EA, or EB in that price range.

Didn't Gilly get his old EA S-pack manual for $buggerall? And that thing was sweet!
$800-1200 should get you a good base EA-EB to work with. Or check out the auctions, I'm sure something "unwanted" like an EF-EL GLi/Futura could be had for that price. |

If Your mechanically minded that always helps as most the time the really cheap ones need a little bit of work, parts are cheap as and if you can do your own work your sweet. |

As I said earlier, bargains are out there you just need to look. In the last 12 months I have lso had an immac 1 owner EF Futura with low kays, and 2 EL Futuras (first was wrecked, and second is my daily). I won't say what I paid, but believe me, bargains do exist.

Any car can need thousands in repairs at any time, unless you are doing DIY repairs and know the cars well. If not, I wouldn't bother buying until you can save for something much fresher.

Ive seen some God awfule examples of cars getting moved at dealers with masive price tags and they where total **** box's. Funny thing is people are happy in paying big money because they think they are getting somthing which they wont have any troubles with but thats never the case. You cant expect anything to be bullet proof unless its got a warenty. |

Trading post you can find an EA or early EB for under $500 like pat said if your mechanically minded you could get it roadworthy under a $1000.

hmmmm thanks guys.
I was hoping for an EB II, ED or EF, probably mainly an ED. I've only gotten into cars and I'm a hands on guy. I know how to change air, oil filters, spark plug and oil change, radiator flush. I havn't done brake/rotor discs, fuel filter or anything regarding timings though. But I have a mcgregrys guide and I guess it's all fairly straight forward |

I brought an EF wagon for $1,700 at a car auction last year. Had a great body and interior, EL XR8 wheels, tow pack, cruise, good stereo, factory alarm and 147,000km.
Reason it was cheap was that it had a blown head gasket. I'd be inclined to save for a while. You're generally better off to buy a 'good one' in the long run though. You can easily spend many thousands on bringing a car in poor condition up to standard. Good luck. |

My EA Spac manual only cost me $900. All it needed was new shocks, brake pads and tie rod ends for a rwc. The ol' girl is still running well, 230,000 on the clock. Keep looking mate.
