Hey,
I have an ED Falcon Sedan which is my pride and joy. The thing thats really getting me down is the fuel.. It seems that I am constantly putting more and more into it. I love my car and I bought it for $2000 but i'm thinking now is it really worth putting more stuff (like wheels, LSD, T5 Trans, and spray job) into it. You guys have had a lot more cars than me so you would have a better idea about what I should do. Do you think I should just save what I would spend on the car excluding fuel, and buy a EL Falcon or something??? (If anyone on here lives in Sydney and wants to point me in the right direction of buying a cheap EL PM me). Or should I stick with the car I got. I know this is probably an annoying thread but I am about to do a suspension upgrade and I want to know if I should stop there! Thanks.. |

At the end of the day its up to what you want really.
Maybe work out the price an EL would cost, then take that money you would spend on that and see what you could spend it on with the ED. (ie wheels, exhaust lsd) etc. Then see what better car you would have at the end. If it was up to me, a nicely done ED would be better then a stock EL!.

I think I'm getting about 20litres to 100 k's. My fuel gauge does not stop moving when i'm driving. I'm talking about it moving about a quarter of a tank!

Whens the last time you replacing the oxy sensor?
Is it blowing any smoke? Blue? Black? I had two EA's previously, I am very happy with my EL. (although a T5 and a non leaking HG would be nice : , the latter is the only issue I have had so far).

no smoke. Haven't touched the oxy sensor. It has sometimes smoked a bit after the cars been turned off. I don't really drive that hard coz of the petrol..

Put it on gas. with the government rebate, it's cheap.
i did all the performance mods, then put it on gas. works like a charm. I switch to petrol when i want my power, and LPG for cruising. Couldn't be happier.

I'd go gas Yahoo189, but if your not happy with it just sell it and buy something you will be happy with.

I don't get it. You want to get rid of the ED because of fuel costs... and you want to replace it with an EL which shouldn't be much better (although your fuel usage does seem to be way too high). I'd just focus first on trying to find why your car is using so much fuel. Just one thing, what does your temperature gauge usually read, because if the thermostat jams open, and the car constantly runs cold, that can cause an increase in fuel usage. It might be a cheap fix. I reckon, stay with what you're used to.

Thanks heaps Dezza, and everyone else. The temp hangs between N and O in the Normal. I just figured that after a few searches in the Forums, and the fact that I love Fords, that people with EL falcons were using so much less fuel than me. You gave me a good idea a while ago Dezza about a manual gearbox so I think I might just have a go at working my car over!! Thanks for your help everyone.

Manual conversion and you will forget about this thread. But find out whats going on with your fuel consumption.
An oxy sensor is ~$100, start there.

If you make a profit, sell it why not? Get something your happy with, otherwise put it on LPG (wont cost you anything under the rebate) and you will get a lot better mileage out of it.
If your still not happy then I guess your like me, you'l never be happy! lol |

I would recommend a EL Ghia V8. Mine does the quater mile in 14.8 secs and returns 13.5L per 100k.
