Default They Have Killed Off The Ltd.

Yes it was a sad day as Ford kills of the long wheel base Falcons but is it just me or can others see the irony that aleast 2 of the last LTD ended up this way

: : : :
and just as I wouldn"t complain if that was the last Ford I take a ride in I carnt help but think 60 years on somebody like Agonys or the Restorers grand kids are trying to put some Hydrogen fired mofo motor in there to use as a old skool Cruiser

I for one, would be happy to see an american ford imported as the failaine (as long as its a good car), it would free up cash and resources for Ford Australia to focus its effort on improving the falcon. Ford are trying to globalise vehicles, and i think now they would be able to do so and keep Australia happy, than say their prior efforts in the 90's.

My main concern is that the only future options for hearses might be Holdens and I am putting it in my will that I get carted away in a Ford. It is bad enough that I may have been conceived in a Monaro ( I try not to think about that.), being carted away in a Statesman would be the death of me.........if I wasn't already dead!

Part of the reason they "killed them off" is there is no long wheel base orion being built.....

Territory is partly to blame for this as well......

The LWB economy of scale just isn't there anymore. Previously the FORD station wagon and Fairlane/LTD combined could at least justify the platform.

Now that the TERRY has slain the Station wagon market and the Fairlane was selling like a SLAYER CD in a monastery...........it made sense that the LWB would not be a viable option in the future for FORD. I reckon they made this decision years ago...............

It's a sad time for sure for those of us who love the LWB Fords but to be honest the cost cutting that resulted in the BA and BF stretched Falcons could be held to blame also, those of us who have always owned LTDs or Fairlanes spend the extra dough for the comfort and styling that sets these vehicles apart from the crowd, The BA and BF seemed to be designed from the outset to blend in and become anonymous, sure they have all the usuall creature comforts you'd expect for the price but the exterior styling was truly uninspired.

I think those hearses started as wagons - they have the wagon/AU windscreen rather than the square corners of the BA/BF Fairlane. It also means the car would be $20k cheaper to buy which is not to be sneezed at!

There are actually a lot of Falcon/Fairlane based hearses in the UK, look up Coleman Milne.

I would like to see a Lincoln out here, but only if it was better than the Town Car barges they have now. I would also like to see a Fairlane/LTD too, perhaps they could be the same car under the skin if Ford leverage the Orion platform in the US

I was about to mention that most Hearses I've seen have been built off wagons. With all the fabrication work it is nothing to do the rear like a Fairlane. If they can turn a Jag into a hearse then this is a no brainer.

You're probably right, I have seen a few hearses and even a couple of stretched limos which look Fairlane / LTD on the outside but the interior (at least in the front) is bog stock Falcon, There is more than one limo getting around out there which started life as the rear end of a totalled Fairlane / LTD grafted to a falcon front anything to save costs I guess and really who cares what the interior of a hearse or the front seat of a limo looks like

I thought hire cars had to meet certain criteria, one of them being it had to start life as a LWB luxo barge.

When I was born in the early eighties, I was brought home from the hospital in our family car - Ford Falcon

When I go out after work and catch a Taxi home - Ford Falcon

When I disobey the law and get pulled over - Ford Falcon

When I get injured and need an Ambulance - Ford F-Series

When I get Married and hire wedding cars - Ford LTD

When I go on holidays and hire a car - Ford Falcon

When I die and take my last journey to my final resting place - Ford LTD

I wouldn't have it any other way.

They do have to be a LWB in the first place, unless your in new zealand, then it doesnt seem to matter.

Hearses on the other hand can start life as an XT wagon and be dressed up on the outside, theres nothing that governs what spec they need to be before they are cut and shut.
