Unhappy ECU reset on AU without A/C

Disconnect the battery for approx 40minutes to 1 hour.

Once reconnected do the following:

AUTO Transmission:

- Reset Computer by disconnecting battery (Take off the positive terminal lead)
- When power is re-connected, start car and idle in this sequence
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in drive and A/C on.
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in drive and A/C off.
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in neutral and A/C on.
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in neutral and A/C off.
- Drive the car on the road, for at least 5 minutes under variable throttle positions.

MANUAL Transmission:

- Same as above, except put the transmission in gear for (drive).

Often, resetting the ECU can give the car a fresh start, improving performance, economy and smoothness. It is recommended that an ECU reset is done after any modification to allow the computer to relearn the car and the driver.
looks easy enough except for the fact my ute doesnt have a/c so does anyone know how to get around this problem? i did a search but couldnt find anything

Really you can get away without any of that after a ecu reset , it just helps give the ecu a starting point to learn from. It's usually just that aircon loads up the engine - so if the ecu wasn't set from starters your car could stall when turning the aircon on - while idleling / untill the ecu had fully learned .

If you don't have aircon , just idle it in drive and nuetural for a few mins each , then drive it around for a while for the ecu to learn the rest. Usually will take around a full tanks worth of fuel driving before it has fully learned it settings again/ to get economy back on track again . The engine should run fine after the reset / just don't expect the best fuel economy for the first full tank while the ecu relearns.

Just some questions about the resets. Does this apply for the 5.6Ls?

And is it really necessary to put the gear in drive for a manual? I mean how does the computer know if it is in gear if the clutch is disengaged?

basically its just a way to help it to learn how to idle under different loads, in a manual, I can't see any reason to do the gear thing. As for a car without aircon, replace aircon steps with highbeam

If I wanna remove the battery for some reason but don't want the ecu to reset, is there a way to provide power to the ecu but not anything else? Can I hook another battery up to the ecu somewhere?

the ECU knows thers is a sensor in the box

Mate the idea of the reset proccess is just to help the ecu learn how to idle under different loads. So whats the purpose of putting a manual into gear (whilst holdinf in the clutch) durring this proccess?

The ECU doesnt care if its in gear or not in a manual. You dont need it in gear to reset the ECU, all you need to do is disconnect the battery. The rest of the sequence is OPTIONAL, and all it does is put the engine under different loads (as many have said above) straight away so the ECU can start learning before you drive, if you dont do it, the ECU will just have to learn the first time you turn the air con on instead, or the first time you turn the steering wheel. but remember, when you start to perform the aircon procedure, the ECU has already been reset, all your doing next is 'teaching' it what to expect.
