Default Going To Look At EL XR6 Tomorrow

EL XR6 for $5990... Looks in good knick.. has High Kms but for the price, can you complain?

http://www.autotrader.com.au/iteminf...ubs_Used+Cars_

Do you think it must have something wrong with it to be that price? or is that pretty standard for a car with that many Kms..

I hope to god i've uncovered a bargain.. I dont intend on keeping the car forever... just for a few years through my apprenticeship so hopefully the Kms dont become an issue..

I can't see the km's in the ad..

Personally i didn't buy a car with over 200,000km's just because generally, the older the engine the more wear the parts have - less chance of parts needing replacement or repair and ultimately less spent on the car.

I have a 160,000km ef that has been treated to be mechanically sound and you know it is when you're in it.

Seems like a great buy to me personally but then again I don't care too much about klms. I bought my ef xr6 with low klms and have added an incredible amount in a relatively short time. My girl sits over 300,000klms and runs great.
Yeah there are a few issues here and there, but nothing more than what you would expect at her age and klms.

Personally it seems to me that these cars just want to keep going no matter what.
If you like it, like the way it drives, feels etc, then I would say you have found a great buy.

(yep, I am a little biased : )

hey mate, i bought an EL xr6 with 270,000kms. dont let the K's bother you.
Just see if you can find out what kinda bloke the driver is, if its had 240,000K of abuse itll be crap, but 240,000K of resonable love you'll be sweet.

See if the headgasket has been done (most likely) since they give out @ around 200,000.

Also its a manual, CHECK THE FIREWALL!!!!!! they will most probably crack, mine did, so i got it re-enforced. so just check if thats been done, if not just get it done as soon as u buy it. cost me round $137 for a mechanic to do it.

Do you know if its city or highway k's? Some say it doesn't matter, but I reckon it makes a 240k car a bit younger, especially on the gear box if its still original. More importantly, as previously said, is how it was driven and serviced. Check any window service stickers, what do they say, are they old? Is the spanner symbol on in the odo screen. These are not particularly good signs.

That said I sold my EF Futura with 255k, regularly serviced, mainly highway k's with all original major components except radiator (check this carefully) and suspension (likely to be on the way out 200k+).

If you ever got in an E series cab in the late 90's you either saw the odo reading 600-800ks or low k's cause they had done the mill and were starting again... with cabbies driving them...
