Is it legal for your ISP to see what files / sites you have been viewing / downloading?

Its not torrents im downloading, but rather files from sites such as megaupload and megashares (I pay for the ability to download from these sites). Im not sure how legal it is for a start, and if I can get caught if it is.

check the terms and conditions from them sites phil, but generally if you pay a fee then its all legal. If you get charged, and its proven that your paying for that service, then the site will have to prove that they are paying the owners for the right to provide the download. if they can't, they get in trouble, not you.

I'm sure there's many more people downloading worse things than you, and usually when cops finally do something about it, they get the source providing the material, not the 'leechers'. So you should be ok anyway.

yeah the only cases you hear of on p2p networks are people with mega fast connections sharing tens of thousands of files... no one is doing to get done for downloading some mp3's... but i wouldn't pay for the service... thats sorta giving the cops a hitlist IMO

Its more of a subscription service. You can downloaded 250mb every 5 hours or you can pay and get unlimited downloads for 6 months.

Most ISP's keep a log of where you go but its so far down in the engineering logs its impossiblefor anyone bar the actual engineering staff ,to get and they dont go to retrieve it unless there is a summons/court order/police order or something like that to get it.
The only reason people get busted for torrents is not from the ISP but the actual company. EG : Nortons have found you downloading their new software, they send a letter to your ISP to advise them of this, then its up to them to either pass that onto you as a warning, or if you have done it to many times, they will close your account. Thats how it works for the Large ISP i work for
