Cleaning Die-Cast Model Cars.

Hi all, what do you use to keep your Models nice and clean & dust free. I have a rather big collection of many brands but they are starting to show swirl marks on them. Whats the best method ? Cheers, Adam.

I keep mine in their original boxes to preserve them and keep them all dust free....It also helps retain their value too.

I have mine in a glass display case and the dust gets in there big time. I even ripped the carpet up and polished the boards to try to stop it, but they still get dusty. My expensive ones are still in their boxes but i also want to keep my display ones looking good.

Try running a clean rag with silicone spray on it along the openings of the display cabinet to aid against dust entering. It may need done about 3 times a week but it is well worth the effort.

I use a make up brush. It is soft and gets into the hard to reach crevices.

I use the acrylic display cases for my 1/18s. All of my 1:43s and 1/64s have their own display cases. They work well. I just give the shelf a dust every once and a while.

MMM... me to but also gave them all a coat of Turtle wax easy enough on the bigger ones but had to use a cotton bud on the smaller ones the dust then just brushes off easy as.

Seal your glass cab. Silicone/mastic all the gaps and use an airtight rubber seal on the glass.

Meguires polish is pretty good, and use a microfibre cloth, gets them looking mint

A second for cotton buds, especially if the car is quite dusty.
My first die cast car was a Matchbox Shelby Cobra in 1/18th scale,
bought back in 1986.
Not knowing, I kept it out of the box on a shelf and it quickly got very dusty.
It took a couple of hours to clean it, and when done, I put it back in the box.

A lesson learned as they say.

If the car has a good coat of wax on the paint you'll be right, but if not, just put some on as the others have said, but be very careful!

pretty sure you can buy meguires polishing kits for the models. not sure how much they are though.

my models are all in their boxes and in the top of my wardrobe - no where to display them in my little house.

mine are in a cabinet that has felt tape around the doors. there is hardly any dust at all over four/five years. the room it is in gets extremely dusty because i do not clean it - the computer keep overheating every six months because of the dust but the cabinet stays clean inside
