Stolen Number plates

On Saturday night someone decided my personal 6 letter number plates would be better off in there hands........ Luckerly (sp?) the RTA are restampamg a set for me. Great, now when I put them on im thinking of screwing them in with screws with Torques bit heads so hopefully wont be as easy to remove. Can anyone suggest any other options?

torx heads can be removed with a blade screwdriver if you've got half a clue, so they're not the best option, but yes a better one at least.

You could rivet them on

when it comes down to it, if they want them, they'll get them, one way or another. That's the risk you take with custom plates.

Tech head bits is what I used in mine. Require socket set to remove. Or go down the nut and bolt route if you can.

use those tamper proof bolts that the head snaps off when tightened up. Only problem is it then becomes a bit of a pain if you need to remove them.

Did they take one or both?
If it's both I'd be inclined to tell Mr Plod in case they put them on a WRX for their next ram raid

What did the Ripoff..sorry...RTA charge you for the replacements ?

If they remove one your allowed a remake but if they steal both your not allowed to have them remade are you?

no one here has tried to physically rip number plates off before?
use whatever bolts you want, it isnt going to make a difference.

They took both of them, The police have been informed and the RTA will remake them ive just got to prove it wasnt me if they are use in a crime, if that becomes a hassel ill change the colour of them. Only cost $30 to remake, Its the first think that the RTA in my life hasnt had a rediculous price for

$100 or so in Vic from memory, but then again we just pay a once off fee for plates, we don't have to pay an annual fee like you northerners.. i'd change them if i were you, get a different plate. I wouldn't want to risk having to defend myself when they DO commit crimes with the plates, or rack up speeding fines etc.

I would have changed colour anyway. Its not worth the potential for hassle keeping it the same.

Its no fun defending yourself, its much worse when you have to prove your innocence.

They are personalised plates, i doubt they would be used in a crime, I would expect to see them sitting at the front and rear window of a car, like some people think looks cool (damn fools if you ask me), or watch out on ebay and the trading post for someone trying rip off people.

Depends on the make of the car, on my mates car they are screwed in on the bumper. They were fixing the car up at the time so the bumper was off, they put the plates on and used a nut and bolt. Nut screwed on the inside of the bumper. Then he wreacked the thread of the bolt, and put the bumper back on. No way they are coming off. Will be a pain in the to get off though!

Bit extream, but it saves ya $410 dollar investment.

One way slotted screws are available for this purpose and should be available from bolt suppliers.
I recall here in the city of Casey Vic, there was a spate of plate thefts that were then used for petrol drive offs etc. The police and local Bunnings stores were holding days where you could have yours changed over for the one way screws.

Hey I remember that. Our local shire was doing that too.
