Default au series 1 pinking

Hi,
I hope somebody can give me some advise please. My series 1 has developed a pinking sound on acceleration. It used to be only when hot, driving through some hills, with about 1/3 throttle opening. Now it has progressed to hot driving on a flat road barely accelerating. holding 100 to 110 k. It seems to go away on haif or more throttle.also the idle speed is slow to come back from about 1000rpm to 500rpm or so.This car is a 99 model with 275k on the clock.Other than this ,it goes great.I have replaced the oxygen sensor and tried some octane booster.
Thanks
xbvanman

Do you mean Pinging .. Maybe your Fuel Filters are Blocked .. or there Pumping way too much or Way too Little into your Car ..

Get someone behind the Car and start it .. if there is Black Smoke , Usually with Fuel means its Running Very Rich ..

But yeah , maybe after 275xxx Kilometers of service , your going to have to Change the Fuel Pump and Filter ($230 - $17.50)

Cheers
Daniel

Get the computer checked for fault codes by someone that knows what they are doing. Had a similar problem with an AU at work a few weeks ago. There was a knock sensor fault code logged in the memory (not unusual with AU's), replaced the sensor, cleared the code and went for a drive. No pinging and the code didnt return either.

oxygen sensor is stuffed if your blowing black smoke on idle when you start it. My car was the same new o2 sensor good as gold

Something that is free to check and may be the cause is loose exhaust manifold - tighten up the bolts and see how you go.
