I have not long ago bought an 1996 ef fairmont ghia and am wanting to surely determine what motor it has (xr6 engine or not). I have read a little and been told by the owner that it has an xr6 motor in it because thats how they came from the factory. Now one of my smart *** mates who thinks he knows everything ford thinks it doesnt and went to the extent of looking under the bonnet and saying some moron just painted the rocker cover because it doesnt have a tickford badge at the front.
So yeah do they fairmont ghias have xr6 motors or not??

They most certainly do, and 3.45:1 LSD as well. The whole XR6 drive line, actually.

thats what i thought thanks guys.. i looked under the bumb and seen it had 3.45 on the original sticker still stuck to the diff and i thought it meant it had a 3.45:1 diff.
Will try and get some pics on here soon. Is burgundy with the full tan leather interior. I brought it off an old couple and it looks to have barely if not never seen a dirt road. Even has the original ford casette that explains the functions of the car and original touch up paint tube, Original sales receipt etc. and has 204000 kms on the clock.

yer it definitely has a passenger side airbag..it is a series 2 1996 model. things it has are: full power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, all the fuel and speed averages and range etc, premium sound with the thing to change effects and where the sound faces, all the climate control things, chrome/woodgrain/leather everywhere

ok people just went outside and looked under the plastic cover and between the front belts sits the "T" which tells me its a tickford. I am happy now. Ive left the cover off so tomorrow i can show him and shut him up.

Sounds like in good condition, my dad bought an EF Fairmont ghia V8 few months ago, full tan leather and premium sound with a body kit and 17" mags with 200000 on it, 1 owner, 1 mechanic for all km's. Even have a receipt for a rear power window regulator @ $398, ouch. Anything that needed doing was done, looks pretty sweet too.

My ghia is getting a new sports exhaust put on this week. Am going 2.5inch with the option of a straight through tail pipe, hot dog or resonator. Think i will go for the hotdog. All for $357 fitted, noise tested and certified to be legal. Mate has a straight through tail pipe on his au and i think it sounds crap and droney. A hot dog should be plenty for me. I want a semi loud yet decent exhaust note that all the ford 6s should have not just a loud buzzy drone.

has no problems hitting the high revs but it seems to cut out around the 198-199km/h mark..doesnt quite get to the 200. Well i think its a limiter because all of a sudden the power to the wheels dies and the foot hits the floor so i back off lol.
MotherNature- Yer is a good pick up, you will have to keep an eye out and as will i too try and see you lol. I will look into OzECruisers a bit more now. Any cruises happening any time soon lol.

The more members we get the more cruises are likely to happen. I am working on an outback adventure as there seems to be a few of us who are not in the city ;)
Am also wanting to get a Sydney/Newwy cruise happening too. I havent been down your way since October but Im sure with Footy season upon us I will be there sometime soonish ;) |

At this stage we are a very newly formed club. We are wanting to hold many events like cruises and the like. Victoria have already had a couple of cruises and the All Ford Day in Geelong.
I am envisaging that we will have similar meets here in NSW once we get the numbers to be able to do this. Our constitution says that we are into driver education and this is something very near to my heart, another event I want to hold is a skid pan day. There is nothing to say we cant have other events like Go kart days & the like ..... it is totally up to the membership to get behind the club & let the committee know what they want to do. So please join & let us know what you want to do as a club, not just as members of AFF (as good as that is :P ) but as a member of the newest club here ;) |
