Default lowering tips for Fairlane?

I'm interesting in lowering an AU Fairlane, 99 model.

What Fairlane specific factors do I need to consider?

none really, just use the right springs etc and you'll be right. If it has SLS, just pull the fuse.

The length.

You've got a longer wheelbase than a Falcon, so all things being equal the middle of the car is going to scrape the ground sooner than a SWB model.

So, if you would consider SLs on a Falcon, I wouldn't go futher than Lows with the Fairlane.

For my money, if I had a 'lane I would leave it standard height. They've got great proportions straight out of the box.

Dont agree. I've just lowered my 99 AU lane' with SL Kings and KYB shocks and it rides excellent. Never scraped yet or hit bump stops after going over a few speed humps. It takes most, not all of the gap between the arch and the tyre away. Go the SL's mate. The lowering is pretty straight forward and I paid $750 fitted including cost of springs and shocks. Like any car that is lowered your not going to go bush in the thing but around town and the highway the ride is supurb.

I have to agree with fordmuscle on the SL's
I lowered my '01 Fairlane with SSL rear and SL front and KYB shocks
The rise is definately firmer (18's add to that as well though) but easy to live with.
And its looks tits too!

If you lower it more than Lows (XR height), then you will probably need the rear adjustable camber pins as used in the XRs - the Fairmonts and 'lanes with IRS have the non-adjustable type.

Heres a pic from just after I lowered it
It's legal at the front and the rear (just :P )
I only put in a camber kit in the front, got it wheel aligned a couple of days after and the rear was pretty spot on apparently.

Cheers.
The SSL's are just the rears.
Its was 'suposedly' going to level the car to be even all round, but the rear sits bout 15mm lower. Overall I think it sits very nicely though

Yeah sits choice, but would sit to low with the full fam in the back with luggage for me but if I had less heads to feed the SSL would definately be the go!

Yeah it would sit quite low with a full load, but seeing as though it's really only me in it, SSL it was

Has anyone experimented with that?

Are the camber pins interchangable between the IRS models and the XR series though?

JC was referring to the IRS XRs, ie XR6 VCT and XR8.

The rear camber kits fit any AU IRS vehicle, including Fairmont Ghia and Fairlane. The XRs were the only ones that had them standard on account of their lower suspension.

Just go your Ford dealer and ask for 2 P/N 5K500ART upper arm camber service kits for the IRS. They're about $40.00 for each side.

Get the front camber kit from Pedders. They have 2 types. Get the one that lets the camber be adjusted from the outside (wheel side) of the hub - about $20.00 more expensive than the other kit but worth it. It saves a lot of time when the wheel alignment gets done.

me and debzilla have SL kings all round
i have 20s .. deb has stockers and the ride is fine and handling is great
deb scrapes her mud flaps on speed humps etc (to be expected on a low car really)
and somthing in the center underneath scrapes on HUGE speed humps
going to be running boge shocks in both cars(i have them already and am pleased with them)

i have been chewing front tyres but i think its due to a dodgy front alignment rather than the lowering plus the 20s have less pliability in the sidewall so if its gonna wear its gonna wear quick (i have super pro camber kit.. deb has nolathane item)

i have a SLIGHT negative camber on the rear but its pretty much uniform wear accross the tread

the parts guy at your ford dealer SHOULD know what part is different on his computer..
if not PM the south side ford parts guy on here and he will let you know the right number?

other than that theres nothing i know of that fairlanes need to worry about except the police thinking the mafia is rolling up haha

Curious i am...

Just purchased a Fairlane AU (NU) Series II Ghia.

I want to lower it but i am scared of going too low.

I want the lowest possible ride but at the same time i dont want the vehicle to be unroadworthy. Reason being is that i need to transfer the rego into my name & state (VIC) once the current interstate (N.S.W.) rego runs out.

So i have purchased King Springs SL's all round however i dont want to spend all this cash for nothing if they only dissapoint me which will in turn make me want to go for the SSL's.

I've got some 19" Wheels for the car too. So if that makes any difference in the ride height please let me know.

Any help would be awesome....

Also on another note once i register it into my name i want to get a Turbo Kit for the Tickford 4.0L motor... Any idea's on whats required???

Do i need to rebuild the motor or can i just throw in a Turbo Kit?

snort performance do turbo kits (www.snortperformance.com)
give them a ring and ask what else they think will be needed to complete their kit all really depends on how much power and stuff you want to make

if you go onto aufalcon.com site and look in the fairlane section
Kristo's is on SSL if not lower but im not sure if its below legal...
mine and debzillas are now on SL kingsprings
im quite sure Dauphins is on SL kings as well

id say you will be VERY happy with it on SL or SSL with 19s
