#1 Tip when buying a car....

Follow your gut!!!

If something doesn't feel or look right WALK AWAY!!!

#2 Don't go by emotion - its a business transaction if your having trouble separating it use a broker there are millions out there now and what you save will well and truly pay for the broker. (I used private fleet)

#3 Get an INDEPENDENT mechanic to check the car out.

research the sort of car you wish to buy? is it going to be a backup family car? main family car? rough runabout? toy? all of these will mean looking for different things. for me, i had to get another car to move mu daughter about in. at the time, she was six months old and my daily driver was a Mini. so, my main priority was something safe. i drew the line at a Camry, but was prepared to buy anything else, so i didnt lmit my self to one make or model. fuel economy wasnt a huge issue, neither was performance. turned out I found a Mondeo around the corner that has a 5 star occupancy safety rating, decent economy, decent performance, decent interior space, big boot and full service history. when i bought the RS, it had no motor, no front suspension, no seats and the gearbox in the boot, but i wanted an RS.

Do a check on the title to see there is any finance owing if it's a private sale, also an RACQ check foe mechanical condition.

Also, look up some of the car sites. They have reviews of older models, and what possible problems to look for when buying.
