First things first, yes it's not the engine...... :togo:
I swear it's only been the last couple of days......start it up.....and while it's idling.....there is the slightest low whirring noise...very quiet...it sounds a bit like an amplifier running, except i only have the factory one at the moment, and it does this with the radio off. sounds like its coming from somewhere at the back end of the car. doesn't appear to affect driveability or performance, but now i've heard it, it bugs the hell out of me.....dunno if it's just me hearing things, but I'm positive it wasn't there a few days ago. Does anybody have any idea what it could possibly be??? Dave

Fuel pump id say.
Mine hums quite loudly, especially when your standing outside at the back of the car. Cheers, Luke

Now that you've mentioned it Luke, I've checked the car idling and standing outside.....and there wasn't any noise that wasn't meant to be there........

Oh ok, well at idle with the car not moving, theres not much else going on at that end of the car. Someone else might have the answer however!
Luke

I had a similar thing, but it was coming from the dash, and it turned out to be that I hadn't turned the vent switch (the one that chooses demist, face, feet etc.) to the right setting properly. Moved it to the setting proper and the noise stopped.

My fuel pump went through a stage of being really noisy, and then quietened down again, I dont understand, but its back to normal now. Perhaps it was a similar situation?
Perhaps the fuel filter needs changing, causing the pump motor to load up? I dunno..

I reckon its the fuel pump. Pour a bottle of upper cylinder lube into the fuel tank, it might just free it up . All you can lose is ten bucks.

Does sound like the fuel pump though as the vent noise is definitely in the cabin. |
