Default Whats the going rate for an AU3 XR8?

OK guys im looking at getting rid of the GM in my life and getting another AU (the other half will get the fairmont).

Its just to hard to go past the value of AU's and I actually like the styling, also I love the alure of the Tickford history.

So, what have people been buying their AU2/3 XR8's for?

What I will be after is:

No Leather
No Sunroof
Manual
Not Red

Thats about as picky as I would get, obviously I want something in good condition, service history etc so lets assume its about an 8/10 overall. I dont expect it to be perfect, but most issues should be an easy fix.

Id prefer a S3, mainly for the kit, but would look at a S2 I guess.

Thanks!

They are going under 10 - some real bargains to be had.

I remember that car, was very nice. Was that a TAS deal? Prices are slightly inflated there. (but that car was perhaps the exception).

Ok for interests sakes lets ignore WA as they are even more inflated than TAS. Its got boom town fever.

I just saw a really nice XR8 rebel on ebay for $9500 buy now, awesome, but its an auto.

I reakon to find a decent series III with the manual gearbox, you'd be looking at around 15k advertised! Its a bit expensive for the age of the car, but thats just what they seem to be going for.
There is a series III Rebal XR8 manual, 68,000ks in mildura for sale through a ford dealers second hand yard, im not sure on the price. Its most likley over priced but you can always try and bargain them down!

Whats your budget? As in every thread like this, what about a T Series?

OK well if we happen to find a dealer then thats good, id hope to trade in the barina for 3-4k on a car in a lot.

If private then around $10k is the max I want to go. Just to complicate things aswell (maybe move this to the tickford section). During uni (say 9 months of the year'ish) I catch a train so the car will be sitting there for the odd weekend cruise.

Now Ive been poking around looking at a weekend race car, and Ive come to the conclusion I just dont have the time just yet to justify a full blown track car, so the aim is to drive this a little bit over the next few years then it will become my circuit toy.

I did a search for XR8's last night and there are some nice late EL's and bugger me ED Sprints for around $10k.

While I would like lesser k's its not a massive issue as when I pull it off the road the engine will be overhauled (with the rest). Im buying for me, not so much as an investment. So in saying that what are your thoughts on my summary:

AU3 - new means slightly better and more power stock, better handling
EL - not over different from the AU, looks good still,
ED Sprint - pretty much a GT means cred straight up and no expensive GT bits to be worried about. A bit lighter than the other two.

A t series would be nice but I couldn't bring myself to bring it to race spec. Plan is for brakes, suspension and cage etc; cant do that to a T unless its a repairable write off.

ED Sprint is the pick of that lot for sure. It will be just as quick on the track as a 220kw AUIII because of it's weight. But IMO it's in the same league as a T-Series - you wouldn't want to be fugging it over by putting a cage in it. Just buy it now, have fun in it on the weekends until you can afford a track car, then your Sprint will still be a very nice drive and most likely be worth more money as well. I can see the price of them rising in the not too distant future and that isn't something that will happen with any XR8 for a very very long time.

You need to take a step back and decide what you really want for a car and the future use of it.
Don't mean to be picky, but you seem to change your mind more times than a kid in a lolly shop.

I dont disagree with you. Whats tough at the moment is changing lifestyle and circumstances (ie baby on the way etc).

The track car idea is great, $6k will get me something very good, set up and ready to go but it means another insurance and rego (maybe) to pay, plus another car to store. That and I think I might be able to hit the track 4 or 5 times max over the next couple of years; so that probably doesn't make much sense.

But if I can get something that I can do a few club days in, some driving courses etc that I can use for weekly duties aswell then thats two problems solved. As it is we have one of our cars sitting in the garage doing not much for a long period of time, might aswell be something that might appreciate or I can keep long term. Thats how I am/was approaching it. Hope that makes sense.

If you get a 200kw Series 2 5 Speed for 10k in decent cond you did well. For a series 3 i doubt you will be looking at less than 12.5k. The good ones want 14k+

I was looking into this about 2 months back and couldn't justify the price they were asking for them over a Ghia V8.
