Thinking of getting a Rip Shifter and just want to get some feed back from anyone that has tried one.
Went down the drags on Wednesday and ran four 13.6s, and now i want a 13.5 so could a good shifter get me there ?? Thanks in advance, Craig. |

definately mate.. i had a 6 speed rip shifter put into my xr6t, and the feel of the gear changes was unbelievable! very short stroke, and very responsive..
id recommend getting either a b&m rip shifter, or you can look them up on ebay. there around the price of 400 for a good one... |

Yep I did install it myself. Bit of fiddling on a couple of bolts from underneath but its fairly straight forward. The instructions say you need to loosen the gearbox a little to drop it an inch or something but I didn't need to. The main problem I had was trying to fit it the wrong way, they've put the logo/stamp on it so that it is upside down to read when you install it. Who would have thought :

You do realise that the leading killer of T5's is high revs and quick shifts?

haha he means, with out strenghtening the T5 auto, using a torque convertor or shift kit, lessens the life dramaticly, so they so
also depends how u drive it to, if u flog it; i.e letting it it rev limiter all time, or drag set up, your guarantedd to lessen the life brad` |

BTR 4 speed is the auto, T5 is the manual.

Whilst not the z I broke 4 T5's doing exactly as I say in my EL, I never however damaged a synchro. I also don't see how diff bounce could hurt 3rd gear, you'd have to be making a lot more power than you or I to manage a bit of axle tramp shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Quote:

Apologies Russ. I typed reply a little too quick and have since had better memory recall. Now again going from memory hard fast revs will break third gear which is the weak link and he also stressed that diff bounce will definitely break third and to me i got the impression diff bounce was the bigger evil of the two and i wanted to ask how a first or second gear bounce could stuff third but got the feeling he was busy and i didn't want to take up any more of his time.
Cheers, Craig. |

well if diff bounce kills em that easily mine shoud be well and truly dead! oh yeh it just about is... but thats from doing skids with 5 blokes in the car! haha
couldnt recommend a quickshifter highly enough, I installed mine in the drive way but on a hoist would be HEAPS better, just loosen the gearbox mounts to get big hands around the top of the box, only problem i had was the front two bolts but got them in eventually. I'm hoping to see you at the drags again craig, i don't think i'll get anywhere near those times but i can only try!
