Gidday.
Need a little problem fixed in a hurry. Advice please. Had the handbrake adjusted on my wife's new AU 1, this morning as final part of roadworthy. On driving it, no accelleration, and squeek in rear axel. Feels to me to be over adjusted. Mechanic has knocked off for the day & cannot be contacted. Vehicle required for work tonight. Going thru juice like no tomrrow & probably overheating new rear disks. Someone like to give me a quick lesson on how to back them off a wee bit. Never adjusted handbrake before. Thanks Last edited by gregj; 27-08-2005 at 03:04 PM. |

THe shoe does not need to be pulled of.... The EASY way is to simply remove the plate and do it though the disk with a screw drive, but if u go the wrong way you will end up with the dand brake being locked on..
Pull the caliper of 2 bolts (15 mm), remove the screw that holds the disk on, remove the disk, then wind the adjuster using a scredriver to close it up.. u may need an nother screw driver to back of the ratchet set up on then adjuster while u wind it in |

Try backing off the 10mm nut at the handle end of the handbrake - pull the vinyl cover off and adjust the nut.

Thanks to all respondants.
Problem solved. But not what I was thinking. Ever wondered what limp home mode feels like...... it feels like you have the handbrake half on!! Didn't think the mechanic could have been so inept as to overtighten. He was however remiss in reconnecting the multiplug at rear of rocker cover after replacing spark plug leads. As handbrake was last thing done (& that's what it felt like) was my first thought. Followed closely by transmission because changing wasn't working properly. Don't know what possessed me to look under the bonnet, but good job I did. Presume lack of connection induces limp home mode. Clue was somebodies description in another thread about taking off in third gear. Thanks again. |
