Hi there...
I've got two absolutely different questions The first question is about my fuel pump : Its a Falcon Futura ( model 2000 ) automatic. The moment I turn the engine off , I can hear a sound from the boot which reminds me of a soft horn . You can only hear it for like half a second and because it comes from the boot and only when you turn the engine off , I think its the fuel pump. It is also interesting that it only happens when I drive a very short distance ( lets say 1 km ) in the morning ( when the car was resting all night ) and turn it off the first time. When I restart and turn it off again, the noise doesn't appear again. It also doesn't happen when I start it in the morning and go for a longer drive. In what circumstances can a fuel pump create noises the moment it is turning off ( air in the system or in the pump ? ). Well...if the fuel pump is slowely giving up I guess I have to replace it soon. Is there a decent way to get the cover plate of in the boot ? I don't want to damage the cover and certainly not the paint job in the boot. The factory used a very tough glue or sealer to stick it on top ( why didn't the use screws ?!?!?! ). So...if anyone has got an idea what could cause that noise in the boot and how I can get that cover panel off without damaging it ....just let me know. My second question is about my roof lining: In my maintenance book it says you can get it through the downfolded rear seats and pull it out through the boot. Well, I bet it works if it is a station wagon.....but with the sedan..I don't know. Those roof linings are very brittle and you can't really bend them or whatever. And because the roof is so wide it also seems impossible to drag it through the rear door without damaging it. I think when they manufacture a car, they put the roof lining through the windscreen opening before they actually put the windscreen in. Has anyone had the situation ? How can I cet the roof lining out of my AU Falcon sedanwthout damaging it ? Thank you for any ideas regarding my two questions. The Moose |

Hi there,
I was hoping to get a few replies but it seems that they are tricky questions.. I'll just wait and hope for some ideas... The Moose |

HI moose, I sympathise with you regarding answers to your questions.I too have asked questions in the last month and had no replies either. It seems to me that if it has nothing to do with performance enhancing products the rest of the ford experts so called are not interested in mundane questions regarding roof linings or fuel gauges. Or maybe we are maikng the questions too hard and no one has the answers, cheers, sooty43

Have you tried ringing a few trimmers for question 2?

In Townsville I paid a roof liner $110 to fix the liner. Seemed well worth the price. Can't help with the fuel pump question. Sorry.

hey,
ur a 100% correct on the roof lining, they put it in before the windscreen. and yeah it is basically like polystyren, if it bends and well its bent for life or it will snap on of those 2 what do u need to take it out of the car for? it could be the presure iser thingo majig, in the boot, if u plant ur foot and have the rear seats down uhear air get out of the boot, and then close off again, something to do with presuring the boot <<<---- good chance someone will correct me on that with in a few minutes of this post. brad` |

Any luck with the fuel pump? I remember having that issue in my old AU1, turned out to be vapour lock according to my mechanic... not 100% sure what he meant, as there were more severe problems with the car i was more worried about... he replaced an o'ring somewhere in the back... sorry its not more useful info.

Hi there...
well.....I haven't talked to anyone about the roof lining yet. If there is anybody who owns an AU and removed the roof lining once for whatever reason.....please let me know how you got it out of the car without damaging it. If it is a station wagon...well...thats easy....but with the sedan.. I also wonder if some trimmer can provide the original fabric of the AU Falcons. Hmm....with that noise.....well. I figured out it comes from underneath the car close to the tranny. If I turn it of when the car hasn't reached its operating temperature it makes a noise for maybe half a second. It sounds like a horn or a valve...like a pressure sound. It is full of tranny fluid and i am asking myself what it could be . The moment I turn the key and shut of the car , it makes that noise randomly. I thought some valves in the engine bay or the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator but now I am pretty sure it comes from the tranny. I have to do a tranny fluid change anyways...I guess I am a little low. Hopefully that will solve it although I still don't understand what could create that sort of noise ...torque converter when it stops spinning ? some valves in the tranny ...I got no clue The Moose |

G'day, I do not know how to solve your problem with the fuel pump, but I might be able to help you with your headlining.
I dont own an AU falcon, but I have an EF. I had to remove the headlining from it to replace it as it was sagging. The way I got it out of the car was to park it in a very open space. I then opened the front doors as wide as they could and reclined the front seats as far back as they could go so that they were as flat as possible, I also removed the headrests. I was then able to maneuver the backing board of the headlining out of the passenger door with "Minimal" bending, though I am not sure how brittle your headlining is but it is worth a try. I also have a BA and it looks like it would come out with minimal bending with the technique I described. To repair the headlining (if yours is still salvageable), I pulled the fabric off of the foam and soaked it in some washing powder to clean it and hung it on the line to dry. I then scraped off all of the excess foam on the backing board and cleaned it. I then got 2 metres of 3 mm foam from clark rubber for about 6 bucks, attached this to the board with a good spray contact adhesive, and then applied the fabric with the same method. Hope that helps, Thanks

Ok I'm a trimmer.....The roof will not come out through the boot of a sedan.
I have all the AU/BA/BF materials for sale if you want to do the job yourself

Hi there...
thanks again for all the comments. I thought it would be impossible to get it through the boot. It is actually funny how some of the maintenance books ( Gregorys , Haynes etc. ) tell you that it is possible ..well well well. @Craggy you manouvered the hard shell ( the board or whatever it's called ) through the passenger door. But the door opening might be a lot bigger compared to the AU. On the other hand, the BA/BF have the same mid part ( front and rear doors are identical to the AU except a few things ) so the door opening of an AU is the same of the BA. Did you actually also get the roof lining out of the BA ? The spray adhesive....didn't it soak through the fabric and left some stains ? And what spray adhesive did you use ? 3M or what brand ? @Trimmaster Thanks, I'll think of it Do you know by any chance, if there are fabrics available in the same color and structure of the original fabric Ford used in 2000 to make our AU or are they different? I wanna keep it as original as possible for the upcoming years when it will turn a classic car ...well..it'll take a few more years , but anyways. Thank you again.. The Moose |
