Default German tuner's last hurrah for V10 BMW M5

BMW's current-generation M5 is not long for this world, and an all-new twin-turbo V8 successor is waiting in the wings, but for German tuner Nowack Motors that was all the more reason to create an amped-up version as a farewell celebration for the V10 super sedan.

Rather than taking the easy way out and strap on a brace of turbos or superchargers, the Nowack boffins have opted to retain the donor car's naturally aspirated configuration for the somewhat clumsily named N635S 5.8 Hans Nowack Edition.

Their reason for not going down the force-fed route? In their own words, it's because "a forced induction engine based on a NA engine never offers the refinement and reliability of a perfectly engineered and manufactured naturally aspirated high performance engine."

Despite its lack of blowers, the 5.8-litre V10 still manages to thump out a towering 528kW at 9000rpm, easily dwarfing the standard 5.0-litre unit's peak output of 373kW.

Nowack says it achieved the massive power hike through "classic mechanical tuning techniques", the use of the latest, most advanced coating materials and a comprehensive remap of the ECU. The N635S 5.8 Hans Nowack Edition also scores a pair of bespoke high-volume intake air collectors to maximise breathing efficiency.

The company claims the stove-hot 5.8-litre unit enhances "the thrill that only a naturally aspirated high-performance engine provides".

Given that all the engine's internals are replaced by high-performance components, Nowack says it can convert even high-mileage examples of the M5/M6 into a (deep breath) N635S 5.8 Hans Nowack Edition.

Providing at least some peace of mind, the engine is covered by a 12-month/unlimited kilometre warranty.

The N635S 5.8 is a tribute from company boss Oliver Nowack to his father Hans, allegedly a technical genius who "always had his own approach when engineering and building high performance engines".

Among his listed feats, Herr Nowack Sr had prepared the BMW 635CSi that Helmut Kelleners drove to victory in the European Touring Car championship.

According to the company's blurb, "He never stopped to invent world-class high performance engines, and after his active career, he continued to be a mentor for his son Oliver, who followed in his footsteps. Hans Nowack died in 2005, and Oliver created this engine to pay tribute to the lifework of his father."
nice effort from the bmw tuner look at the kw it is popping out

Yeah which is a massive shame, i loved the Gemballa porsches!! GT750RS is just a monster!

NBack to the M5 though, i'd love to hear that thing at full song. Can't imagine the sound but i'd hazard a guess at near F1 vocals.
