I think they DO want a factory in Oz, especially with the way they (Dearborn) are rampantly throwing project and engineering work at FoA. PD and manufacturing are joined at the hip: you can't have one without the other. Well, you can, but one is much harder without the other.

What the factory makes in years to come is up for debate.

As for the XR8, the only way it is going to fly is if the costs and so forth are spread over another model. Like a G6ET equivalent. And don't give me the biffo about the amount of people who wouldnt spend that sort of coin on the n/a V8 when you see the numbers of new SS's and V8 Calais' on the roads - there are people among us who would quite clearly spend that sort of money on that sort of car without wanting (or needing) and FPV/HSV product.

I agree, but why? It's not the public's fault. They were on board in the glory days of the 80s/90s when Falcon was number 1.

Correct, but as Buntz said they like our government money. All would take is the govt bailing out on manufacturing and you wouldn't see them for dust.

Must remember as well that Ford OZ is Ford Dearborn. Product direction and approval come from the top.

It's because they have been let down by Ford. It's not the best in class any more... and dealing with Ford dealers is a nightmare.

That and Ford don't care to tell people how good the FG is.

Not saying they are, buyers are telling large sedan makers what they do and don't want.
Mostly, it's something else like more versatile and fuel efficient vehicles in general,

Correct. And that's why I'm angry about it. It seems like it should be an easy thing to fix but alas, it continues.

Without bagging out dealers, self promotion seems to be very lacking at the blue oval,
I sometimes wonder whether Holden got a double order by mistake....

Yup, me and my mates have hit an age where we buy new cars for both private or business use. No one has an Aussie built sedan. Dual Cab 4x4 popular for the blokes (Camping, trailer, boat etc) while mum drives a mid size SUV for the kids. Sedans were popular when there was one vehicle that had to tow the caravan on hols and cart the kids around during the week. This is covered by two vehicles in most families now.

Holden's marketing is bloody tops. The ads are great... and I mumble and grumble at their greatness. Secretly liking them. Is it a wonder it's the best selling large car. Or best selling car in Australia?

Besides the fact that GM actually support and are proud of it.

The other thing about the VE is this: it is not the horrid steaming pile of crap that many on this forum make it out to be. It is a good car, but many believe (me included) that the FG is better.

Combine having a 'good car' with great marketing and what do you know, you will actually move quite a few of them. At what price...well, that's a debate for another thread.

Yes but who's holding yard and car park is full of unsold Falcons?
and Who's factory is on three day weeks because of poor sales?

Is Ford weening the Aussie public off Falcon with poor sales or is it the other way around.......

Holden made the quantum jump and changed the proportions of the car,
the bold style and long wheelbase short overhang have really changed
the look / road presence of Commodore compared to VZ.

FG to BF II not so much, it looks nice but doesn't distance the past enough ...IMO.
In the end it's not what i think that matters buyers will vote with their feet.

I was asking the question .... the same as what Ford would be asking themselves. Who would buy one when the other options are available.

For an XR8 to be successful it would need to be priced similar to XR6T $47,000. To put a new engine into the XR8 would take development ... the XR6 had the development done .... 10 years or so ago which was at the right time using an engine that was built here for many years ...... different times today and even different when FPV committed to Miami.

So many said when the Miami project was in full swing that they would sell like hot cakes, everyone here was buying one and wanted a S/C engine that would woop everyones **** but when it came to the crunch .... everyone went silent and complained about the wheels and stripes.

Dont you think that in this climate when the fastest car produced in Australia is struggling along with the whole Falcon range that Ford would be doing the numbers?
