Default Needing Advice on Some Car Deals

Looking on carsales tonight, I've found some nice cars that are in my price range but need someone to clarify if its overpriced or not. So, what would you pay for a clean BAI or BAII with 100k or less, leather/manual or not. I've found a couple with round 80k for about 13k, full leather too. And lastly, someone is claiming he has a limited edition Herrod version. It has a steel plate with Herrod Motorsport on the interior somewhere (cant tell from the pic), looks like a scuff plate. Is there such thing as this, or is it just fitted with a Herrod system? Thanks in advance.

One more thing, I've seen low km turbos going for less than higher km N/A's. Whats the go here?

XR6 XR8 ???

Looks like the blue xr6 just has a herrod scuff plate, exhaust looks stock, headers/extractors look stock, along with the rest of the car.

Also need a hand convincing the old girl to let me buy/consider private sales. She is thouroughly convinced that they're only out to stooge me, not make a genuine sale. And the only cars I've found in car yards are ridiculously overpriced.

Have bought and sold over 60 cars to date, through a dealer only 2 - other than the new ones of course.
It would have to be a hell of a deal for me to buy off a dealer.
If your worried about what you might be getting from a private seller, get them comprehensively checked out, RACQ etc are good for this.

I would check this out... http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/FORD/FAIRMONT/details.aspx?R=9816468&__sid=1277D8ADF7A7&Make=FOR D&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_Image Count_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&Mo del=FAIRMONT&__N=4294966463%2082%20410%20751%20501 %204294966280%201216%20834%20285%20257&State=Victo ria&distance=25&silo=1003&PriceTo=410&seot=1&Cr=0& __Nne=20&trecs=2&state_id=82&PriceMax=15000

Best way to do that in my opinion, show her two vehicles that are comparable. Prove that the price difference is there...it's hard work making us see the sensibility in it sometimes . If you know cars, there shouldn't be a problem, and as mentioned a motoring body such as RACQ will check out for you. If you're a member, I believe it's free (I didn't read the fine print too well on my membership).

Nah i know cars pretty well, but ever since i bought a motorbike off a private seller that blew up because of something I did wrong, she's convinced that private sellers are all scammers.

I was planning on getting whatever car i look at inspected, but how do i do this without wasting money. For example, do i see a car i like, pay somebody to check it over, then find something wrong or find a better deal and decide not to buy it, have i wasted all that money getting it checked?

A dealer bought car will set you back at least 2-3k more than a private one all things being equal, you can do a lot of vehicle reports for that money.
The way to do it is to do a deal on a car you like subject to a vehicle report, that way you are both committed unless something drastic shows up.
Don't expect perfection, if you did a report on a car from a dealer you will still find problems, they are used cars after all.
Do it this way everyone is happy, and your a long way better off.
Oh, don't forget to do a REVS check before anything else, that is the one main difference between dealer and private, dealer has to guarantee clear title to the vehicle.
I always make it non optional that the receipt from the private seller also states a 'guarantee clear title' clause. Be very upfront about this right from the beginning, if there any um's and ah's, walk away.
If you have that in your receipt, the car cannot be repossessed from you if there is money owing on it. they have to go back to the previous owner.
BTW, my dad was a car and truck salesman for many years...

if you get keen on a car make sure you have the money with you just in case you want to buy it then offer at least $1500-2000 less mention cash and you should get it. I'v seen this work many times through a mate he got a mint VL Calais 5L for $2500 after the guy was asking $5000 i'v even done it as well works a treat.

Excellent idea.
Do you have an example of the wording of such a clause ?

I just keep it very simple - such as:-

Received from xx xxxx xxxxxxx the sum of, xxxxxx Thousand xxxxx Hundred Dollars only ($xxxxx.00) being full and final payment for 1 only 2004 Ford Futura Sedan, Reg No xxx-xxx, VIN xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

My signature on this receipt guarantee’s clear title to the above vehicle.

This is for one I bought last year.
Make sure you get both signatures if it's registered in both names.

Hope this helps.
