Default ea annoyance

Hi guys,

More of a frustration rather than a problem....

There seems to be a flat spot in my acceleration from stand still. Seems to happen more when she's running hot.

I sit at the lights.... they go green, and I accelerate gradually but there will be a hesitation in the car and then suddenly it'll kick in.

Any suggestions to what I should be looking at?

3 speed cfi.... running beautifully besides that.

Cheers,

Ian

it just before it changes gear?
if so then it could be your tranny clutch

quite possible the tps, mine used to do that too, symptoms were a lag before acceleration and the auto not kicking down, remember on the EA's the TPS has 2 outputs controlling both. i had a play around, got one from a wreckers and it came good

then i did an mpfi conversion

disconnect the oxy sensor and see if that makes a difference. if it does it's rooted.

Exact same problem except mine's a 5 speed MPFI, i've disconnected the oxy sensor, and changed leads and plugs to no avail :

Its a 3 speed auto so has manual kickdown, and will only have one TPS, so reasonably you would have suspect the gearbox, but they are pretty hard to kill.

Whats the fuel consumption like, how mnay k's do you get out of a tank.

cheers guys for the info....

kickdown is working fine..... Sometimes I feel the box holds third for too long when slowing down...... but I'm told this was to help improve economy. the gearbox changes smoothly while driving... although there's a noticeable clunk when shifting between p-r-n....... universal joints???

fuel consumption....... recentlying on a trip down south I worked it out to be 8.5km/L....so around 510km to 60L if my calculations are correct. This was mixture some country, some stop start.

around town...... not so crash obviously. Last time I worked it out to be 6.7km/L so around 400km to 60L if I get a good run.

is it the case of the 3-speed cfi set up or does something not sound right? I've been meaning to drive another one to suss out whether it's a problem or not but most EA-loving folks around here have the 4-speed.

I've changed plugs and leads, and it helped, but not down really low (when the car is cold) is flatspots big time...only sometimes though, and only when taking off in 1st...any ideas?

hey kids, i also suffer from this frustration, it almost feels like it has electronic throttle controle and it takes its sweet *** time to get to the brains to say "go ". however to get rid of 80% of the lag i just stall it up to about 1000-1500 rpm, i'm to sure about all this tichnical talk, however i do plan on tightening my excelerator cable so it sits @ like 800rpm rather than the 400/500 mark, i'm tipping since the cars are over 15 years old the cable has stretched. get back to me NARCEA if u find the problem, i alkso hav the 3 speed :p

if its anything like anyother ones i have worked on, find where the cable is, and where it inputs into the engine, there should be a spring system, and an adjustable hollow bolt type thing that cablke runs through, expand that and it should take up any slack in the cable, an easy fix to stop slow idleing cars
