Default FORDS New AD Revision of an Old One..

I saw the ad tonight for the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo..at the end it said "Have you had a test drive ,lately, maybe you should."
That is similar to the 80's ad ,"Have you driven a Ford Lately"
Have Ford a new marketing team ??

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Have you Driven a Ford lately was one of Ford's most successful slogans. Everything 80's is back in fashion, so why not an advertising campaign.

IMO I think we are beyond that. Id do remember the adds, but its a distant memory now.
As catchy as the term was, I cant help but feel that its a pley for help or a "second chance". I can see how that slogam was applicable in that era when Ford had tried to begun introducing the V8 range back into the fleet after so many yrs on the outs. That to me is a smart slogan for a particular time. Not today. Ford has the packages. With a range like the XT to the GT-P. I just dont believe that we are lacking anything, or have been for a few yrs to credibly say that quote.

I know Im thinking far into it and as i said its only my opinion.

i remember this add as well. the difference this time round, is that ford dont have over 20% market share like that had in 80's. back then just about every second house hold had a laser/metieor/telstar as a second car....

Isn't that then point? To build market share? Might make people think twice before they just go and get the latest Bombodore, they might take the time to test drive a Ford, the difference speaks for itself, I don't know how many of you have driven a VE but I have and my FG drives a lot better.

I couldn't disagree anymore if I tried!!!

From my point of view.. They do need poeple to give ford a "second chance" as so many people have turned away from the Ford brand.. Yes, Ford does have all these greats cars, but if no-one is test driving them before they buy a new car, then there is no point in having them..

I haven't seen the add yet in full.. just deen the end 10 sec a few times

I seem to remember there used to be some adverts back then with a pause in them, eg: "Have you driven a Ford? Lately?", in other words "we're not old fashioned anymore" or something like that. Used to be popular advertising that.

I totally agree. We've got VE's here at work and I prefer the FG, no contest.

Bring in the American marketing team imo. Needs more Built Ford Tough and the XR6T/FPV can be marketed like the Stang is in the states.

Ford's marketing has been MIA for a while now...

Too many 'YES' men aiming at the wrong people with the wrong style of ads...

I know that marketing isn't 'EVERYTHING' to selling the car, but it sure does help when it's done right...

I could sight numerous examples, but i'd be going over old ground and I really can't be bothered...

well the tables have just been turned around. back then...it was seen to be the 'safer' option to buy anything with a ford badge on it. Ford (bless the XE and XF) were kicking the crap out of holden (holden went broke and got bailed out by GM in mid 80's remember).

when i got my VE, the FG were yet to hit the market. Maybe next time round....they do look nice on the road, especially the aqua colour XR6.

things sure did change in a hurry. the letters 'EA' still haunt them now.....

I see your point with trying to get a new customer base in our fleet.... But surely there is a better slogan? Wouldnt that throw people further away as they would be inclind to remember what those Adverts where in reference too way back then?

Ford were still on top then. The letters 'AU' are more appropriate. Bring back the 'lately' adds. They have nostalgic value. Don't underestimate the power of nostalgia.

The letters AU haunts them even more, when dealers resorted to adding Ute
egg crate grille in place of chrome waterfall grille you knew things were grim..

Yes they do have a new marketing team, they were bought in some time over the past 12 months to get it all going for new Territory, Focus, Ranger and FG II.

I don't see that at all, all I see is Ford wanting people to take their cars for a test drive, because most of their cars are superior to the others, and would sell in much greater numbers if they could just get people to test drive them. Most people won't even test drive a Ford because of their poor brand image, even though pretty much every Ford is superior to their higher selling rivals.

Focus is a million miles better than Cruze, just about every other car in the class is better, but Holden still sell a bunch of them because of a strong brand image. In a perfect world people would see the Cruze for what it is, a rehashed Daewoo thats middle of the road/average at best. It doesn't deserve to sell as many as it does.

I hate that Fiesta ad, the "OVER BRIDGES UNDER BRIDGES LUCAS" one, makes me want to snap my TV in half.

I guess it worked though because I remember what its advertising, too bad I already own a Fiesta and Focus.
