Have you driven an FG XR6? They are a quick car! As for advertising turbos, I'm sure the XR6 buyer can be upsold once they are in the showroom. There's also the issue of insurance and running costs which makes the turbo cars much less appealing to the masses.

I disagree that the XR6 NA is a "quick" car. Its not. My old BAT with 185K and dinosaur 4 speeder still easily covers FG XR6 NAs......

But your point is spot on, the masses only want a shopping trolley and family sedan, and the XR6 is a large car which looks identical to the performance models......so I guess they will get more customers that way.

Flappist, Ford published pictures of a drag race between the two at their proving ground, the EcoLPI had about a car length if I recall correctly. Although they did use a slight incline, so perhaps the EcoLPI's superior torque had a hand to play in it.

Well of course your BA XR6T will beat an NA XR6, although it wouldn't be "easy" to 100km/h - I know because I have done it with an FG XR6 (ZF) vs my mate's BAII XR6T (4 speed) - the XR6 demolished it off the mark, only once we got to interesting speeds did the turbo have the advantage for obvious reasons.

And since when was "thrill" simply about speed? As a family car they are plenty quick, 6.5 seconds to 100 kays is no slouch for a big NA sedan. An XR6 will beat most new cars on the road when you think about it. Ford is right to say they are a thrill, it's not just about straight lines, an XR6 with the ZF is a very well sorted car. I know I would have a lot more fun through some corners in a NA 6 speed XR6 than a 4 speed turbo - because I've done it in both.

Also Superfly is referring to the XR50 interior vs a regular XR6T.

I disagree.

Ive had my BAT (with 2-3K mods) for over 5 years and wouldnt change for a NA FG XR6 in a million years. Id love an FG F6 though, the best FG perfomance car. Each to their own I guess.......

Good for you. If Ford had to rely on Turbo to make money they would go broke. I have an '11 NA XR6 that runs 98 RON all the time. I don't care what I can or cant beat, the car has all the power and torque I will ever need. I wouldn't swap my NA for your old BA T for anything.

Did you notice the smiley face? I know it won't beat everything at the traffic light GP, I was highlighting the fact that the car is quick enough and quicker than a lot of cars on the road. Geez, even my wife's WRX will beat my XR50.

And as mentioned, I have a XR50 which has the dual zone climate a/c, piano black interior, leather/suade seats and colour screen which all makes the interior very nice compared to the stock XR6/XR6T.

As you said each to their own. You should buy my WRX, it will show you how "thrilling" a car can be moreso than your BA

"I feel sorry of the Holden fans in this country, they have nothing to be proud of any more, there cars are slower, use more fuel, have outdated technology compared to the Fords, and drivers that duy Holdens know they're buying an inferior product. In the V8 supercars they're so desperate to win they have stacked the field to the point that 3/4 of the cars are Holdens, every time Ford wins the Championship, Holdens buys the driver or the whole team ... it's quite sad really. FPV cars are better than the HSV cars, The Territory is better than the Captiva, The Fiesta & Focus are better then the Barina, The Mondeo is better than the Cruse, The Falcon is better than the Commodore, Ford Utes are better then Holden Utes and the Ranger is better then the Colorado. No matter how many people buy a Holden, they are still inferior and everyone knows it .... I hope Holden can improve, for the Austrlian car industry's sake, but Ford fans can be proud of the ground breaking effort Ford is making accross the whole range of superior cars they make"

This is a quoted comment from a guy on the article posted above earlier....what a champ. Its so true tho...ive been saying it for years now

Couldn't agree more.

At the end of the day,Ford marketing is targeting "the masses", e.g families and people who do not want a turbo or 8. Just a large family car. They are trying to put a bullet in SV6 sales....

Has anyone ACTUALLY tested one of these on a quarter mile, either privately or by a magazine journalist?

Just because on paper they have more power and torque does not automatically make them quicker.

XR8 always had more power and torque than XR6T so theoretically it would be faster but it has been shown that the real world does not always agree with theory much to the annoyance of some true believers..
