Hey guys, just wondering what everyone thinks of the accuracy of the diagnostic mode of the odometer on EF/EL instrument clusters, reason I'm asking is cos there is a 3km difference between the digital speedo and the analogue speedo. And also the fuel consumption figures seem to be way over the top.
I'm tossin up on gettin a trip computer but if it's accurate there would be no point

the cluster gets the same information from the ecu as the trip computer would. So it's much of a muchness..

Well I just got into a little debate with other's about the accuracy of gauges in vehicle's on the Territory page, but put it this mate, they are a guide, now speed gauges have allway's been inconsistant, because manufacturer's only need to be within 10% and fuel gauges are somewhat familiar.

The analogue speedo is set to read a couple of km/h less than what you are really doing, which explains the difference from the diagnostic mode speedo, which is what the car thinks it is doing - and may not be accurate in itself... I can't remember exactly how the fuel consumption works as it has been a while since I used diagnostic mode but there are a couple of different readouts and they are not all in L/100km

dont forget there are different modes, unbuffered and buffered. They effect the readings as buffered essentially evens out the scale to stop it swinging wildly.

mine is about 3 km/h diference, but i thought that was because i changed rim size.

speaking of the diagnostics readouts on the el/ef dash cluster, does your digital oil preasure guage on the odometer readout work because mine always says zero.

The needle is set to show the speed as 3 to 4% higher than the actual vehicle speed. This is done by the factory to:
1. Allow for tyre diametre differencee- Inflation, tread depth, size differences 2. Allow for the overspeed with cruise control when it comes to the crest on a hill, before it starts disengaging. Saves you from getting a speeding fine. Both of these were reasons discussed on a plant tour. The only way round it is to get a cop cluster. Mine is set so the needle is showing 100 when the car is doing 100... You then notice how you are always going quicker than every car on the freeway. |
