i did a bit of a search and couldnt see anything about this.
basically my A/C and all that works well, except that it only blows air onto the windscreen and my feet. ive got the control pannel loose and it all seems to be working (everything moves). for instance i have the air blowing, and move the switch from windscreen to face and it all seems to move but the air keeps blowing onto the windscreen. absolutly no air comes out of anywhere else.

Check that the system has the vac line connected in the engine bay. If its ea/eb1 there will be 3 hoses coming through the firewall onnthe passenger side, 2 black one green. the green is for the heater tap. one black will go to near the thermoistat housing the other will go to a white nipple on the end of the intake manifold. If its eb2 onwards theres only one black and its connected to vacumn.

I have exactly the same problem with mine, however it occurs only when i'm accelarating from low down in the rev range...
Had all the vacuum lines checked and re checked but cant find fault. Can only assume it has something to do with the head work I've had done.... |

MrBrock, have you checked the vacuum tank behind the drivers front guard? Sounds like it may have a leak or something.

On the side of your thermostat housing there should be a white fitting with 3 nipples. theres a rubber fitting that goes onto that then 2 vac hoses into that. The black one you have hanging in the air is one of those. What it does is when the car is overheating it changes the aircon from fresh to recir mode to reduce the load on the a/c system which in turn creates less heat infromt of the radiator.

Prob a vac line like suggested - there is a green and a black one on the passenger side at the rear of the engine.

The black vacuum hoses go into the rear of the manifold, no where near the thermostat housing. The green one into the heater tap.

Of course it does. Do you have a Factory workshop manual? If so look at 16-1-10

Ignore my previous post, just checked the workshop manual and realised EA-EBI is supposed to have a vacuum fitting at the thermo housing.
Naughty, is your engine original?

Im pretty sure on low series models its supposed to be where the climate control temp sensor is (blue fitting). Not sure where its supposed to be on the high series models?

If your climate is working normally its nothing to worry about. If its constantly stuck on recirc then you need to add one in. I'm not sure if the valve put vac to the short bblack hose constantly or only when the engine is overheating to force the system to recirc mode. If it works normally dont worry about it too much.

well the prob with my aircond has been fixed. it was an air leak. the people who tried to fix it last split the tube so it would fit over the plastic "thingy" instead of dunking the end in hot water and sliding it on. thats what i did, problem fixed.
now the air goes where i tells it too. not that i use air cond anyway, its just that "someone" was ИИИИИing about not having it on there face... pffffffffffffft.

I just wanted to add that my car was doing exactly the same thing this morning after my husband was fixing the windscreen washer yesterday. I remembered reading this post so came back and followed the instructions given by everyone. It was a bit confusing because I have a eaII but the themo housing does have the tubes you were talking about (it looks different to naughtyfalcon's) and I found that the black tube had become dislodged from the back of the exhaust manifold so I reconnected and woot my a/c is working again on faces not just the windscreen and feet. Thanks so much everyone!!
