The critical issue is Amps. If your car's battery is just below the critical level, then you could probably "jump" it with a torch battery. But if its dead flat and actually sucking charge, then you need a massive set of leads to feed in enough current.
Some of the modern jumpers and chargers use a capacitor, which in theory is capable of delivering a massive surge of current for the few seconds long enough to start a modern engine. BUT you still need a hefty set of cables to carry that current. |

Hmmm, maybe but I recon you only get one chance at the turn of the crank otherwise forget it.
Probably good for a motorbike or small engine egg beater car. |

my brother jump started a Harley at work with one the battery was that flat the relay wouldn't even click . he said it spun it over better than a new battery . he was so impressed he went straight out to the spare parts counter and bought himself one . ( he has been a Harley mechanic and auto elec. for 30 years )

RAA uses these, I left my caravan hooked up to my car one day down at victor harbour (caravan fridge continues to suck power even though car is not running, must put a switch in one day).
the vehicle was so dead the door remotes would not operate......he stuck this little feller on and away she went. he reckoned it was the best thing since pre pealed banana's......gets about 4 jumps out of it. I will be buying one in the near future. this is the one I seen (instead of making another post).... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Super-Min...-/130683742208

I have one of the small ones 'Exelite' brand.
Started my wife's car several times with it. 2009 Mazda 3. Car didn't even have power to turn the motor. Started easily with the small jump pack. Started my mates VH dunnydore with it as well 6 Cyl. Very handy tool Keeps the kids iPods and iPads charged on long trips in my old Positive earth cortina with no ciggy lighter jacks. Has a torch as well

Lets say your car requires 400 amps at "12v" to turnover effectively and start. If your battery can only put out 350 before the voltage drops too low, then the car won't start. But connect a small jumper that can supply the extra 50 amps and the car will start fine. However if your battery is so flat that it needs an extra 200 amps, then those dinky leads won't cut it. |

I will stick to my RACV membership or the old trusty jumper leads saving me wasting money on a product that will probably fail after sitting the boot for donks......
For the amount of times I've had flat batteries in 40 years driving I think I needed RACV once & used the jumpers for others about 6 times. |
