Front suspension done! Ready do drop a 4 litre injected 6 into chassis. Diff will go directly into transmission like before. I have an AU which the engine might come from but I may wait till I receive an ED/F engine...
In other engineering marvel news, 2 of my senior students lowered this much sort after classic Mitsubishi wagon, giving it an aggressive, menacing stance... Did I go to far there??? |

Some progress on the Beast. This is only a dummy engine/tranny (from the demolition derby car) that we will use to set the diff up with leaf springs...
It's still a long way off completion but I can't wait to give this version of the beast a caning... ahem, I mean a genteel drive in the test paddock... |

We decided to start up the engine to check out how it was running after its demolition derby treatment so we replaced the cracked sump and put some fresh oil in. The sound unfortunately overwhelmed my camera's capability but it seemed to roar ok...

nice bit of work by the students & you !
With the direct connection of drivetrain, how did you manage that ..a short tailshaft section with uni's ? another photo would be good. Cheers...

We removed the slip joint from the tail shaft and fitted it to the universal joint on the rear mating surfaces to the diff. I'll get a photo today if I remember...

First thing that comes to mind is lack of steering wheel, but thinking about it the front wheels will be off the ground most of the time anyway..
maybe fit two brake pedals like a tractor?

The steering system will be similar to the first incarnation but will be more suitably designed and fitted. The first model also could not get any traction and that was using an old 200 cid XB 6 cylinder so I don't think the wheels will point skyward...

Pretty sure that "tailshaft " won't work with only one uni joint.Either need to have 2 uni,s or mount the diff and transmission solid.

I don't think that suspension will move much either, so the back still going to get sore. I see a class on suspension geometry to follow

To much power for a heap like that.
We had a Holden 149 in a Austin A40 chassis on the farm 40 years ago, such things are to dangerous to drive even with the power of a 149. We just made do with old cars for paddock bashers as they are much safer. Good to see you are mucking about with such a thing, but tell the kids to get an old car if they drive about the paddock. |
