Effective immediately all Top fuel racing in Australia will be cut to 1000 ft.
Now that the USA based IHRA is running the show if you haven't already seen proper t/f racing you never will. I've watched it in the USA and it's really disappointing to watch them shut off 100m before the finish line That's progress for safety's sake, apparently |

There was a well known drag racer killed about 10 years ago in the states after his top fuel car hit a concrete pole in the braking area .
For what ever reason the blame was put on the high speed of the car and lack of braking area, so straight away they stopped all top fuel and funny cars from running 1/4 mile and shortened it to 1000ft. There are plenty of ways to reduce the speed of the cars rather than have different classes running different track lengths. Funny thing is that the IHRA used a recent 335mph run in Australian as a example of the excessive speeds but thats exactly the speed they have got back to in the usa running 1000ft. |

What choice did we have over here? IHRA now run top fuel and rapisarda threatened to pull out of racing here effectively killing off 3 fuelers that race here, theres about ten teams here but when was the last time we saw all teams race in one meet apart from the winternats.its bad enough we dont see much of top bike at willowbank thanks to the govcos v.l.a.d laws ( a lot of teams belong to bike clubs). Scott kalitta was the guy killed all those years ago.

All it really means is all previous records are now redundant. It sort of goes against history because yes the top fuel cars have evolved but the 1 thing that never changed was the legnth of the track. Everything else is different but 402m was consistent. I'm sure that no one jumps in a top fueller thinking there's nothing that can go wrong.

It's a shame but still a spectacle regardless. Even just an idle and a few throttle blips in the pits is enough to gather a crowd. Awesome machines.
I have often thought why can't they just make longer and safer braking areas.

Thongs in F1 and now this.
No wonder I'm losing interest in motorsport. "Speed kills" seems to be the new mantra in motorsport. Is the Victorian government running the show now?

Why can't we just sign a piece of paper, to say we accept all responsibility and risks of doing something instead of being told what we can't do. Sh.ts me to tears the way the world is heading.

I suppose it comes down to drain on the health system. If the government is going to provide health care they want to limit the amount of people using it.

I don't really see what difference it makes.
It's the start that's the huge spectacle and shutting off 100ft earlier is what .5 of a second? Better than no top fuel at all. |

320 ft earlier, Jura in the states is still a spectacle, when they changed, part of it was many engine explosions were occurring in the big end, this helps end, this helped reduce them

The tracks in the USA were built in the 60s and the braking areas were never designed for 330 plus mph speeds , hence why they shortened the distance, to give the drivers that extra distance to stop after Kalitta fatality .
Our newer tracks ie Perth and Sydney don't have this problem so to say I'm rather annoyed we're heading down this path would be an understatement, why why why Last edited by ozbloke74; 01-10-2017 at 11:31 PM. |

This gives a little background information. In the end IHRA is now managing the Top Fuel classes.

Terrible still shot as Scott's car is still running down the track.

They dropped the length down to lower top speed but all race category's improve there times every season with advances in technology, cars are running more mile an hour now in 1000 foot than they were in 1320
