Default Hastings Deering Sydney Ford Dealer Photos

If you go to https://archives.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au and search for Hastings Deering and filter to photographs there are a couple of very good colour photographs of the dealership and a number of B&W images with the dealership building.

Hastings Deering, Wright then City Ford.

East Sydney Private Hospital, a Woolworths Supermarket and Car Park are in the building.

Wow.

I love this building and it used to terrify me going up the twin corkscrew ramps in a car to each level.

The history and uniqueness of it and all the things inside - like the communication / system that looked like a pipe organ.

Hi Everyone,
I remember Hastings Deering Ford Dealer i think they were at Lidcombe on Parramatta Rd?
I also Remember Jack Brabham Ford which were at Bankstown in Sydney.

There's a Ford Dealership in the US that started in 1903 called Tenvoorde Ford and as of 22 Jan 2012 was still going.

I am from Melbourne so don't know a lot about how many dealership sites they had.

The main one back in the day was at 75 Crown Street, Woolloomooloo, later on became City Ford.

I believe that Hastings Deering were the biggest Ford dealers in Australia in that era.

Not only did they have the dealership in the city (Crown St), they also had the very large "factory" at Parramatta Rd Lidcombe, where they assembled Ford tractors & trucks under contract to Ford. It was a large car dealership as well.

They also ran most of the smaller metro dealerships. The ones at Ryde (now was Fury Ford then Brad Garlick) & St Leonards (was Alto) come to mind.

I didn't know a lot about Hastings Deering. I read an article, Hastings Deering secured the contract as the first Australian Ford distributor.
At one time the article claimed they were the largest Ford Dealer in the world selling 7,000 new Fords a year and around 5,000 used cars.

I remember the Dealer as a Kid on Parramatta Road at Lidcombe.
It was a massive building.
It is now a Shopping Centre
Where is a Time Machine when you need one.
