I have an XR8 ute.
Does anybody know what the solenoid behind the front passenger guard (infront of the wheel) is used for? I have had it replaced once, but the guy had no idea what it was for. When starting in the morning, there is no sound then after about 30 secs it starts ticking. I have no idea, is it doing something it shouldn't? MAC72S |

Thanks, I searched for a solution and found that a cable tie and some sponge will stop it from vibrating on the inner guard.

I didn't think it was a vibration and thought all you could do was noise insulation.

we find just about all of them eventually do it(thankfully mine hasnt yet), replacing it usually results in a temporary fix before it starts doing it again, wrapping it in foam or carpet underlay seems to quiet them down enough not to annoy you

yeah just undo the front of the L/H/F inner guard and pull it back, you'll be able to get to it very easy

Another thing to check which might be causing the ticking/clicking sound ! ...
If you live out in the bush , make sure you haven't got 'Skippy' the bush kangaroo stuck under your car ! .. hehehehehe :

I've noticed a faint, yet rapid ticking noise coming from the driver's side when I accelerate... Sounds like its up near the firewall somewhere?
