I think I just lost my licence.

OR

Stupid me for putting the boot in through a roundabout in a 50 zone.

Anyone know how hard it is in Tasmania to get an exemption so I can drive my work car to and from work during the week?

I've looked up on the Service Tas website. Automatic disqualification is if I'm doing 38-45km over the limit.

I should be right, I'll just cop a massive fine.

I was doing well over 70 from memory.

Option B.

70 in a 50, I doubt you will get any exceptions

15-30 over in NSW is 3 points (might be 4 now) and something like $300 fine.
30-45 is 4 points I think.
45 and over is 3 months disqualification (no possible probationary licence for P platers though).

But ... if you do more than 130 in a 110 zone on NSW freeways ... it's automatic disqualification ... go figure.

But as i said ... that's NSW though.

i can vouch for the 30-45 , 1 months loss of license at $575ish :eclipsee_

that was a few years ago, but still pretty much the same, i saw back then if you got 45 over it was like $1600+

It is actually

There are licence suspension periods, similar to the minimum disqualification periods applied by a court, for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h (3 months), and by more than 45 km/h (6 months).

If police catch you speeding by more than 45km/h over the limit you may have your licence immediately suspended and confiscated at the roadside for 6 months
The following table displays the fixed penalty notice fines for speeding as at 1st July 2006.

If police detect you speeding by more than 45 km/h over the limit they may immediately suspend your licence for 6 months.

so for cars the fines are $77, $231, $590 and $1589
and points are 3,3,4 and 6

Does anyone use a radar detector in NSW?? I was looking at these on the net (see link below) - they are apparently undectable by the cops.

Can anone confirm that this is true for NSW?

In ACT i got my licence suspended for 3 months going 60km/h over the limit. It didnt get suspended until I paid it but. I get it back this monday.

The fine cost me $1597. Such a waste when it wasnt really that fast. But oh well. **** Happens.

on a side note , i often leave the gt in the garage and drive the EL FUTURA. mainly for work as it's on lpg. i work around the clock . i see so many cars pulled over on the side of the highway at night with blue and red lights flashing only to get closer and find . new gt falcons with men 40+ leaning over their boot. then i shake my head and thank god i drove trusty EL today.

They are not undetectable, simple as that.

If you are driving down the highway in the middle of the night with no-one else around and the cop shoots you with his radar and instantly your brake lights come on, this can be a little bit of a giveaway. The NSW HWP may not be the nicest bunch of people, however, they’re not stupid.

Radar detectors aren’t that useful for lasers. With the mobile radars that they used to use X and K band, these units would send a ground check pulse every couple of seconds. Also, have you heard of a little device known as a Stalcar? These are radar detector, detecting radars. NSW HWP use them.
Over time radar detectors leak microwaves, therefore sending out a signal which is one way they can tell if you have one.

My advice is don’t even bother with the things.

It isn't over time that it happens. The radar detector has a local oscillator who's frequency ends up being transmitted(leaked) when trying to detect radars.
Radar detector detectors look for that particular frequency.
Companies will release new detectors which they will claim to be undetectable, which might be true. But with the new release of detector detectors, they will look for the frequency emitted by the later ones on the market.
There are ways to stop the local oscillator frequency from being transmitted though.

the 130 in a 110 zone disqualification has now been removed. The speeding offences are as I listed above.

Ahh ... OK ... I wasn't sure if it was still inforce ... but it wasn't too long ago that it was still being used.

I know someone just over 6 months ago lost his licence for doing just over 130km/h on the freeway ... it was to discourage people from going "too quick" on the freeway.

That idiotic fine, having regard the overall quality of road that it applied, introduced under Scully, was removed by Costa following the NSW Country Road summit.

It will not be reintroduced.

I lost mine (in Melbourne

: ) for 1 month for doing 128 on the freeway - I was spotted by a radar gun while overtaking. That stung a little as it was my first fine.
