Default Recommended machine shops in north suburbs (vic)

G'day guys,

I'm looking to have my 4.0 head machined.
Basically I want it shaved so I will have around 10:1 comp, valve regrind with a 3 angle seat cut and a light going over with the die grinder just to clean up the port castings.

Can anyone give me an estimate to how much this may cost, and a recommendation of a good machine shop in the northern suburbs of melbourne?

I've heard Pavtek Race Engines in Lalor is quite good. Anyone had stuff done there before?

Thanks,
Aj

PM Brenx, he had his stroker Cleveland machined there. You could also try Duggan's balancing service, reflex in Somerton, and any number of others. Generally you get what you pay for. The top shops are able to command more money because they have the runs on the board that have built their reputation. There are plenty of smaller shops that could handle your job quite capably. Prices will always go up as soon as the die grinder comes out though because it is just so time consuming/labour intensive

The head that I have is a tickford casting with the larger ports, so the porting is negligable anyway, I want them cleaned up a little bit so it is proberly something I could do myself... I could always shave the head myself too, as I have a mill that is capable of it.
I guess I'll call around tomorrow and get a few prices.

This has p***ed me off... I called up Pavtek for a quote on head machining and they tell me that they only do V8's...

So I mention that there is a long list of head machining services that they provide, including 4cyl and 6cyl, on their website.

http://www.pavtek.com.au/ms_heads.html

And this bloke tells me that its wrong... What a load of BS...

That's correct Pavtek aren't keen on anything but V8's. They call them one off's. It takes hours to setup a machine for a job. When they leave it all setup for 8's it decreases their turn around times dramatically. Provided you have a V8 of course.
