Have you guys seen these puppies? Sorry if you have...
Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show. http://paultan.org/archives/2005/07/...ichelin-tweel/ These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires. This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology: a. no more air valves b. no more air compressors at gas stations c. no more repair kits

They look weird, kind of like a push bike tyre on a car lol. I wonder if they will make spokey-dokes for them?
Seriously though, I like the sound of no punctures etc but the look would be hard to get used to. |

yeah ive seen then a while ago, interesting to say the least.
They would be fine for your daily, or a to b car, but obviously not sportscars. How would you match them to shocks etc etc?

Interesting, but they won't pass until the cops find a way to stop motorists who use them.

Interesting, the only thing apart from the fact they look weird.. is that id imagine handling wouldnt be equal to 'normal' tyres... And with that said, they wouldnt be any good for 17"+ Mags

I did read it, but thanks for that. Yes it may be 'stiffer' but the tyres wont have any side roll at all, that thing called grib? When taking corners....

Can see a real market for these in industrial application such as the bobcat they showed there.
If it minimises downtime through punctures then extra costs can be justified. |

The article did mention that they would put sidewalls on them and that the exposed pics were mainly to show how the tyres actually work. Might look better with some side walls on them *shrug*

But clearly they look crap cos if you looked at them like normal tyres, I doubt you can get them in low profile, so if u dig 14" chromies with tyres that fat then there u go!

Could be used in combination with normal tubeless designs to provide run flat capability or to be built in lower profiles.
Not to mention possibilities for military vechicals. |

yes they are fugly and yes they look quite wrong on the audi....but i'd imagine if a car was being designed for these wheels in mind (say in quite a few years time) the design of the car will compliment the wheels alot more therefore making them look less ugly.
Just a thought |

They seem like a good idea to me. They just dont look that good.. Even if they give great handling, reliable etc etc. Can you still do skid or will it just fold up and bugger you new funny looking rim?

Read the article but i didn't see there how they wear compared to normal tyres.
Since you have to replace the entire wheel it'll be more expensive, will the tweel last longer than a radial?? |
