real IRS?? as opposed to the fords which isnt real??? or are you refering to holdens previous effort???
either way the real IRS on the ss is great in a straight line but can hold the the road like a good obedient dog when going around the track. as i understand it the the track time of the typhoon was below that of the SS....:
Yep holdens old IRS it was never fully independent it was OK for it's job but now they got a real fully independent rear which they must now think we should have done that 4 years ago.
That's the best thing everyone knows the old Commodores could fling around a track but everyday driving is more important, Now they got the mix of the 2 right it's good in all areas of driving and that was where the BA-BF killed the VY-VZ.

Anyway i also think the Phoon is still THE Aussie performance car to have.
I just want my XR6T to still compete with VESS.
On the subject of magazine tests Motor said the XR6T is "easiest car to drive quickly" but rekoned SS is the one to have. Just shows how dodgy thier verdicts are...
ok perhaps i am going crazy . my mate had a xr6t . he traded it on a bosss 260 xr8. both manuals . he swears the 8 is faster in every way . both stock . i've been in the xr8 and think its a bit lame . every one has a differant story . normally goes against my experiances . ahh well.
i dont care what the mags say.if they were talking about xr8 or gt or f6 or xr6 times with those numbers everyone would be happy . but . the mags never mention these times at all with fords . but the f6 comes close according to mag times here.

In stock form, the V8 will feel faster in every way. Spend $2000 on the XR6T, and it will eat it for breakfast.

I know a bloke his dads owns a Ba GT and he always says it just feels so much faster always has the feel of stuffing you into the seat. But they never seem to beat the times of the turbos still?.

How can them compare these 2 cars. One is a V8 and the other is a Turbo 6. One is a manual, one is an auto. One is an FPV and the other is a holden not a HSV. Price difference indicates this. They should be comparing the SS to the XR8. Stupid comparasins

i went the other way from ba xr8 even moddified 275rwkws to a bf f6 typhoon and let me tell ya the f6 would win standard thats a fact. different story again now just modded the f6 and have 320rwkws and its amazing now. dont listen to these ******* from these mags they cant drive for ***** and have biased opinions, my mates bf f6 typhoon did 13.2 down the quarter bog standard then backed up a few weeks later with bmc filter only and did 12.94. thats quicker than the new commodore. dont mind the new commodores but they should get there facts right or learn how to drive, or bring me in to drive the f6 and see what wins.

i dont care about the turbo being better....i want a v8 that will beat a holden v8 in any form.....how do you know how much power the orion v8 will have, is it all assumptions? are you saying they may not be as powerful but they will be lighter ? does that mean the v8 ford should win?
how do you get all your information and why cant you tell us the plans from now?

Having read the article, my major problem is the lack of road testing in this year's BFYB. All the testing was track based & this is not where the Fords/FPVs do their best work.
Still waiting for proper car on car test for the Falcon & Commode.

seems to be alot of crying going on here. Its all conspiracy theory, Holden has never done better times than a typhoon or xr6t, wah wah.
Geez guys, its a simple test to see how two cars went on the same day in the same conditions over the same distance. Auto, manual, whatever. Who cares? The SS was faster. Are you surpised? you shouldnt be. Guess what? The orion will prob be faster than the VE. I am a car lover but some of you have such rich blue blood it really is rediculous. Just accept that the phoon MAY have been overtaken based on a simple test which shows such a small diff that its hardly worth crowing about. Be diplomatic. Maybe because its the bathurst weekend, that some of you have your back hairs up about anything holden.

The VE SS has gone back from a 3.73 diff to 3.43's that was in previous V8 models i think. So with a longer first gear, new generation chassis and IRS with a 6 litre V8 i think it's believable.
The HSV's in auto form should be quicker than the auto SS since they get a 3.2 diff compared to the SS's 2.8

Some of you guys really need to get a life.

Your mates phoon doing a sub 10 while being backed off the transporter means *****. As has been said Same Track, Same Driver, Same day the SS did the job. Appreciate it for what it is. A kick in the **** for Ford to make sure the Orion stacks up.

As for the "Holden gives out special cars brigade". Get over it, Ford could equally have done it, Ford just wind up the boost a little easy as, after all they wouldn't want the plain jane Holden to beat their flagship money spinner would they. Just for the record, NZ Autocar took a SSV off the showroom floor (Holden do not provide media cars here) 5.38 0-100. Guess that adds weight to the 5.2-5.5 0-100 times for SS's.

Can't wait to see some GTS times. Maybe Ford should rename its special cars to Ford Premium Vehicles. Same stuff just more expensive.

An yup, I have now decided to buy a SSV while I wait to see what Orion brings. I am truely dissapointed that Ford can't build a performance cars and even more dissapointed they can't afford to even facelift the BA after 4 years.

true that. Im a Ford man through and through. But I buy cars with my head not my heart. And thats why im now in a HSV. Ford just doesn't offer anything that inspires me. I find XR8's to be overweight barge's that aren't quick enough compared to the competition. The Turbos are good jiggers. But I love V8's and always will. Plus for BFYB you get 450hp out of an LS1 for $500 with a MAFLESS Tune. Pulling 12 second quaters and sub 5 0-100 sprints. Show me a Ford V8 that can do that all day long unopened with zero bolt ons and just a tune.

Pull your finger out Ford and I'll be back with bells on, till then I'll be over on the dark side having a ball.

So i see its 'Bang for your Buck' time again - i cancelled my subscription to the Ford vs Holden magazine many months ago so i've lost track. Take a bunch of high school educated yobos, give them a keyboard and Motor is what they'll come up with. It never ceases to amaze me that 9 times out of 10 the fastest car down the quarter wins the comparo. Don't worry about interior/exterior quality, resale value, insurance costs, dealer support etc - its fast so its good..

'Bang for your Buck' - what an absolute **** of an 'award'. In my eyes there's no point having a car that can run a 13 second quarter out of the box when it falls apart and springs oil leaks after 3 years. The only way aussie cars will become true value for money performance cars is when people actually start demanding a quality product. Before people start throwing stones, please bear in mind that i make my comments based on my experiences with vehicles from both the Ford (BA/BF) and Holden/HSV (VZ/VE) camps..

After talking to a guy that just went to Calder about great grip and getting used to it, I can see the F6 doing 12's with the grip off the line and getting the boost up.
But i can also see a SS doing a sub 13 in the right conditions.
Someone hasn't wasted time, there is already a SSV with turbo doing 1/4's .

If was after a sedan I would certainly have to try out the new SS. But as I only tend to buy utes these days I still think Ford have the runs on board there. Be interesting to see what Holden come up with when the new utes arrive, but think I read somewhere that they are a long way off doing anything with the Holden ute in the way of an update.

They should have plans set in on looks and what to do. But some artist pics have done the rounds and first impressions in 1 word... ****!.
