If they can't do it any other way then impose an export tax, as said previously, of 40cpl on the exporters and take that straight off the top of the pump price. They'll still make a motsa in revenue as we export alot more than we use and the economy will benefit which in turn will also add to the coffers in boosted tax revenue from consumers. Sounds like a win win for all of us, except for the exporters of coarse, but they're bending us over right now so I, for one, don't have any sympathy for them.
If 40c is too much then make it 15c or 20c and put it all back into the pump price. The economy would still benefit and tax revenue would still go up.

Just found this article with a few good reasons for the prices to be much lower...

“They cannot use the excuse of increased LPG production costs to justify a 33 percent increase in the local commodity price, especially when the majority of our LPG is sourced locally. We are also concerned this new high price will risk damaging the reputation of LPG as a cheaper alternative fuel and potentially reduce the number of motorists who will use it now and into the future.”

The article is incorrect. Australia may produce alot of the raw gas, but we only refine circa 40% of the lpg used in australia. The rest gets sent overseas, refined, and some sent back to Australia. What should the government do, instruct petrol stations to sell locally refined lpg at one price, and imported refined lpg at another price.

Yes, that's exactly what they should do.

If you want capitalism and you want international financiers to develop the mining sector you have to accept that the same financiers have the right to sell at best prices.
You can't be a little bit capitalist and nationalise (taxpayer fund) the other bits, or is that what the public wants?.
After electing Tony, I don't think so.

Latest news is prices WILL go back down in the year......Ther was a horrible rumour that its going to $1.25 but we are pretty sure that is totally false now and was the servo attendents fault.....

Even if prices do go back down we still need this petition to be sent in after the silly season so please guys keep signing.......Thanks!

My father took his BA ute in to get the gas tuned, he asked the mechanic for a quote to convert his Commodore to gas and was quoted a very low price for a complete new installation. I can't say the exact price but believe me, he was practically giving it away. The LPG specialist mentioned he had heaps of tanks in storage and hadn't done many conversions recently.
Seems like a scary time to be in the LPG conversion industry.

The Saudi cp is simply the relevant benchmark price for our region as Singapore Tapis is for diesel/petrol.
The international consortiums wouldn't be here exploring and occasionally finding let alone extracting it if it was to be at a govt manipulated price.
Being Europe's preferred heating fuel, the northern winter defines our high price point because of the demand.
Saudi cp defines the rules for all and gives clarity.
The price point beyond that involves all the margins applied in getting it to the bowser.
Capitalism(profit incentive) + globalism(international markets) = pump price.

Govt inquiries in fuel pricing? Hmmm. Read that as healthy skepticism on meaningful outcomes.
Signed.

Another big taxi company has gone under in melbourne in the last couple of days sighting lack of drivers and the higher cost of lpg.

This just bloody sucks and something has got to be done about it. 90 cents a litre for lpg is just a bloody rip off.

So it's nearly a month after this thread was started and still struggling to get 500 signatures, Is this an indicator of the populations care factor, or is it nobody knows about the petition.....?

Bloody hell I never heard anything about this.......Well its up to all of us to pass this petition around to everyone we know and try and get something done before it really does hit the fan.

You gotta think about all the conversion shops that will go broke if no one is buying LPG.
