was sitting in the tea room the other day, so i sat down and had a read....
this will probably be a stupid thread but i just thought i would mention it i know wheels is biased to holden ive heard all that before but this issue is rediculous. First they run with an article comparing the latest hsv ve gts i think it is with an 07 typhoon. how you can even compare a latest generation model car with something that is being slowly phased out is stupid. as you would expect the typhoon copped a bagging but what was worst was the consistent referal back to the GT and GT-P and how much of a dud car it was. the typhoon managed about 4 parahgaphs to the hsv's 50 billion. every second car tested in a commodore or holden...if not either those two is an audi. the issue had about 3 different audi reviews. what a sh it issue and a sh it read from a sh it magazine |

Both cars are currently for sale new and perfectly legitimate targets for a comparison. People with money to buy either of the two cars might actually want to read such a test.
They've tested the GT/GT-P with the Typhoon before and it didn't win then. Why would they put FPV's no.2 against HSV? I read the article myself and thought the Typhoon came out pretty well. Perhaps if you were to stop reading with only one eye you may see it differently. |

I think a few people are just a little sore that the typhoon lost...
When the BA and VY came out in late '02, it was the falcon that won most of the comparisions. |

I thought this was one of the best issues in a long time. The only thing I was disappointed in was the pictures of the Grange which were to dark and you couldnt get a proper look at it. The comparison between the GTS and F6 is 1 journo's opinion. I havent driven either so I cant tell which one is better. But the Australian muscle car section is well worth the read.

Back in the late 80s Wheels and/or Motor did a similar comparo, but it was between the then new EA and the ageing VL (before the VN was released). They'll always do comparos like this. After all, they (Typhoon and VE) are the current offerings from Ford & Holden, even if the holden is a generation ahead (in name only in my opinion :P)

They reckoned the Typhoon was the best performance car FPV had to offer and the GTS is the best HSV offer. Fair call, if given the choice, i would buy the GT, but at the end of the day the Typhoon around the track would be better

I dont understand what all the fuss is about, I read the mag last night and thought it was a good read, the article about old school muscle was very interesting, who cares if the gts beat the f6, its one magazines opinion.
Wheels, motor etc have always compared the current offerings from ford and holden, whats differant here? If the f6 beat the gts you would all be saying what a wonderful mag it is and that it just shows how good the f6 is, beating a car that is 5 years newer. |

The camparison is totally justified, and the result shouldn't suprise anyone.
But yeah, the red team get a good spread just about every issue.

I have driven both the GT and the GTS, The GTS wins hands down. But comparing apples with apples the GT is a 5 year old car. A fair comparison will be when the new GT arrives next year!

The Boss engine is many things but slow revving it isn't. The GTS numbers are only available on 98 Ron where as the F6 has those numbers on 95.
Give it six months and the GTS will be criticised in a contradiction. That’s the way with the Australian press. If you don't like the result just wait a few months and the same cars will return a completely different test review. HSV have had and continue to have a pretty wide variance in their engines. Work Colleague has had 8 of the buggers now. Previously his two VZs where miles apart without them being touched. The clubbie killed his R8 and my GT-P. His current GTS is slower then the lot. I don’t have any trouble beating the GTS but I had no chance against the VZs especially the clubbie. Its just one of those things with the LS engines.

Guys this cycle always repeats itself. For the time being the VE will win all comparisons no matter how good or bad it is, but when the orion comes out again regardless of the car it will come out on top and then when the new holden is out it will win etc

I tended to agree with the article. Perhaps some of the Ford fanatics need to really get out and drive these things and compare with an open mind. I would pick the GTS if money was no issue, but bang for your buck it is hard to beat the phoon. The F6 also has better in gear acceleration, which is more important out on the road for embarrassing holdens.

Yes I have to agree with some here and WHEELS. The comparison is quite fair and reasionable. As I wrote in another forum.
GTS manual VS F6 manual. GTS is quicker over the 400m: This makes sense as the F6 dumps boost everytime you change gears in a manual. F6 is quicker in gears: This also makes sense as the turbo makes the 550Nm of torque available over a much wide rev range than the N/A V8 GTS handles better: yes the magnothrob suspension is quite clever and the F6 does not even have DSC. It is the end of that series. GTS stops better: again, new brake technology and chassis dynamics show the way. GTS vs F6 interior: F6 is basicly the same at the 2002 fairmont, VE is newer and quite nifty; in 2002 GTS was old, Ford was new, swings and roundabouts. GTS vs F6 exterior: Elle MacPherson vs Claudia Schiffer.......personal taste really. Fuel economy: well a grain of salt here, I have a F6 that uses less than that and a friend whose GTS uses more than that, it depends on too many external factors really, either way if fuel economy is the major issue then www.hyundai.com.au is just a mouse click away. Modded GTS vs modded F6, who cares, he who spends the most money wins EVERY time. Having now actually played with a GTS, in my opinion, it is by FAR the best thing HSV have ever made..... |

Wow some people on here really need to get a reality check. First off the Typhoon is a CURRENT release and will be for another year or so. Soooo in fact the comparo is fine, is it Wheel's fault that Ford are not releasing Orion yet? I read the article and found no bias whatsoever in there. Credit where credit is due, the E series HSV's are a good kit, that is not to say the FPV isn't. It is just the HSV is an updated car not running on an old platform and it appears to be a decent car, wow shock horror huh.
Get over your complex with Wheels magazine and grow up peoples, Ford isn't the centre of the universe and there are better cars out there. Live with it. |

I find it amazing how people get so upset. Don't be so one eyed.
Personally, I would hope the GTS is the better car. Given it's brand new and has technologies like MRC and ESP which the F6 lacks. It's great how Holden and Ford push the boundaries with each other. We consumers end up winning. At the end of the day, I love driving my F6. It's a real buzz and the acceleration is addictive. I am not going to worry what others write or think about it. Some people crack me up. Take a chill pill people. |

I own an F6 and had no real drama with the review, I also agree about its comments about the Ford GT as it pretty much what I thought when driving both before I bought the F6. Would have been interesting to see a review of the Automatic versions back to back to see if the HSV still beat the F6. Oh, and the photography in the review was yawn as was the artwork.

I ditched the mainstream australian motoring media in favour of top gear a couple years ago, clarkson tell's it how it is, and doesn't give bias to a car because it 'has good reliability'.

GTP Owner - you are spot on the money......
Someone is always going to turn out looking like the proverbial's dogs breakfast, and in this edition it happens to be the 'phoon. I actually thought this edition was not too bad at all........

It seems the biggest shortcoming for the Phoon was its lack of composure ( DSC , ESP )
Why don't FPV offer this as an option ?? Its available on the XR6 and XR8 ?????????? As for Interior materials being "next generation" in the VE............ The most ineteresting aspect was the fuel consumption. The phoon is way behind here. Lighter car, smaller capacity and still over the top consumption. Not a real major concern for Performance car buyers I know, but either way, it is interesting.
