Default Wheel stud snaped off...

I was changing my tyre last night at the back right hand side and i was un doing one of the studs and it snaped right off...What would of caused this? There seems to be some surface rust on them, could that be the problem? Is it safe to drive around with for a while?

Usually caused by a loose wheel nut or over tightening. Surface rust is not an issue.
I recommend getting it fixed asap as 4 studs is not enough to secure the wheel and if it loosens can lead to all the others failing in a hurry. You can drive on it but dont leave it that way for too long.

been there, done that! You can buy new wheel studs for $5, take the whole hub off and the nuts can be knocked out with a bit of force, and the new ones will go in just by tightening the nut. - might pay to get yourself a little pully, as its pretty tight to take out the axle - (well it was on mine)

Avoid driving on 4 studs, as the wheel will vibrate, then you'll snap another one, and the rest wont be far behind, and before you know it, youve hit the breaks and the wheels found a new home on the bonnet of the car crossing the intersection

no need to take the axle out you should be able to remove the old one with a suitable drift and hammer and just slip the new one in use a wheel nut to pull it in

but how do you get in/out from behind? the back of the studs are all blocked off, I had to pull the center of the axle out to make room for the old studs to come out, I guess theres always an easier way!

i know you can replace rear studs without removing the axle on an ea, not sure about au tho, never had to do one on one of them, ea's just had a hole somewhere on the actual axle housing / diff whatever you want to call it that you could put the new one through
