No. The first EA had 3 speed Borg Warners the first 4 speed BTRs had a separate control module while later ones had the control module with the engine ECU and there were various models of and different ones for 6's and V8's. They may bolt in but the wiring and electronics May not be compatible. AU's , EL and EF's had 93LEs (6s) and 97LE (V8s) while 85/91/95LE were on EA to EDs.

Yes, any 4 speed auto trannie will fit any car that came with one. So you can have an EB 4 speed in your AU. The main difference between them is the action of the valves and solenoids, and the way the electrics work (as pointed out above, some had separate ECUs etc), but the wiring at the trans is essentially the same. TurboTaxi has fitted an EB auto trans to his AU turbo, and it works fine.

From what I've been told EB-AU will all fit. Some plugs and wiring though won't be compatible on the older trans and will need to be swapped for the AU stuff. Apparently any trans place or a mechanic who's done this before can do this though.

Guys .I have an ef box on the au wagon. The difference is that you need to bolt your existing bell housing to the non au gearbox. Also they do not have a variable pressure adjustable solenoid. They have a solenoid just non adjustable. My s5 solenoid died and an au one reinstalled since.

When my next box dies (which hopefully won't be for a while as it's just been rebuilt) this is the way I'll be going - ie EF gearbox with a disptick. Either that, or a manual conversion !

i have an EB? 4 speed auto in my car
i have an au fairlane

the only bad thing is the STIFF gear shifter
which i think is just how the boxes were??

the difference is 4 bolts
the AU bellhousing to gearbox has 8 the EB has 4

but other than that its a dip stick and thats about all i believe
