Default au111 xr6 or xr8???

Hi all....

I'm shopping for a new(used) car.....I've owned a BA XR6T before...I sold it as i got a company car with my last job......Now I'm shopping again but my budget is 20 grand......I don't want a high mileage BA so I've found 2 AU 111 XR's....I like the AU111's and there are just to many BA XR6 fleet cars nowadays....

One is an XR8 220 and the other is an XR6 sprint....Both have the rebel body kit.... The 8 has only 85000k's where the XR6 has 110000....The 8 is only $1000 bucks more!!!!!

Both cars have leather interior and the XR8 has the premium sound too...I would love the 8 but I'm concerned about the fuel ...I may consider converting the 8 to duel fuel if the budget allows it.....Who has an XR8 on lpg???? What is the cost saving???

Any advice would be appreciated

No contest, go the 8. The fuel consumption between the two is 2/10's of bugger all but the difference when you put the foot down and hear that sweet V8 will remind you why you went the 8 every time. Sounds like a sweet one too with those options.

Definately the 220, they are a brilliant vehicle. As good as the XR6 is
(Tickford XR6 that is) the 8 is the better overall package.

Buy my 2002 XR6 for $15k :P Nah, drive them both...I like the my 6 cause it has better pickup than the 8's I've driven, but the 8 had a nice pull and sounds like a serious car...mind you, put your foot down in my car and you'd be surprised that it's a 6 with the sound and noise it makes.

Another yes for the xr8 :hihi: once your driving it around you will know you made the right choice, no competition between the sound of a 6 and 8..

An AU III XR6 is good, but the 220kw AU XR8s are special. They're arguably the world's finest production example of an (unstroked) Windsor and combine new generation dynamics with old school muscle. Ford in the US was going to use the AU XR8 / VCTs rear suspension in its current model Mustang, but the AU's IRS would have been too expensive because of its level of sophistication.

I sold my edited BA XR6T and bought an AU XR8 220 whilst looking for a BF XR6T to modify. I now have my BF, and should (and probably will) sell my AU, but I'm very reluctant as I know I'll miss it. Its a very, very satisfying and characterful car and for me at least, its much more soulful than any N/A six or for that matter the BA V8s.

Get the XR8.

750-800 on trips, what mods got you that sort of mileage!? Do tell, or please point me in the right direction mate.

The 8 drinks slightly more petrol & costs more to insure, but doesnt have the heart and soul of the 8, even with mods. Until you've had a good drive in an XR8 you just dont get it (I didnt, then gave it a whirl and now I'm a convert)

Was the XR6 ST/sprint a VCT with IRS, or just an XR6 with bling? IRS is a nice addition as well.

If you shop around for a while a decent BA may be achievable. My brother sold his BA2 04 XR8 with around 60k on the clock, for only 22 and it was pretty optioned up.

Having said that, I hated the thing and thought it was gutless and awful to drive!

Back to the AU, it's gotta be the 8, no contest.

If you were thinking of turbo or anything in the future, I'd go the 6 simply cos the kits are readily available, and they respond well to boost, but for any other reason it's gotta be the 8.

No massive mods to get great economy from the 220, mine had pod filter set up, better headers and importantly at the time got a Unichip fitted and tune.
They are very rich from factory, get your A/F ratios sorted and my Sydney Melb runs DTE got up to 850 at times, Sydney day to day traffic pushing her 400-500.

Go the 220 to the thread starter, I6's are great but 8's at that era are GREATER :

Not much difference in fuel economy between the VCT and the 8.

It's a no brainer, really, especially with the options that XR8 has on it.

Thanks for the input guys.......According to you all there is no question!!!!!!!!1

Obviously my heart says XR8......I owned one for a short time but it was written off....I then had a BA XR6T with an edit....The turbo is awesome but you had to be flying in it for it to feel good.......A V8 feels good all the time.....Even just cruising....

I'm going to check out the AU on Saturday as it's a country car and see how it goes.....I am seriously considering LPG.......I have to decide which system to go with....The old system or the new gas injection.
