Hey guys, I have just bought a AC compressor for my 2000 model and I was wondering if its easy enough to do yourself (minus taking it down the shop to be regassed), or just take the car and compressor to the people and and let them do it all. Also, how do you turn off the gas from the reservior if i did it myself? the system works fine just the bearings are shot and the clutch is going so i bought a whole new unit. your tips would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get it done by a pro, the system needs to be degassed legaly and then refilled after. There's only a few bolts holding it on so the additional labour in replacing the compressor would be minimal.

Can i ask where from and how much your compressor was, i have to replace mine for the same reasons. Ford told me that i can only get factory refurbished one from them, went to the auto-elecs and they want $670 just for the compressor, all up inc reciever/dryer, labour and gas $1200

Go on ebay mate, they have heaps of Au parts on there for reasonable prices. I got mine for $245 and there are about 3 left from the guy i bought it off on ebay. I just purchased mine two days ago and it comes with a clutch. If the system works there should be no leaks so you only need to replace the compressor.
