Looks like someone was going too fast, mounted the curb, hit the pole and ended up in the car yard.

If you watch them do it, they just simply nudge the cars in front and behind until they get in to the parking spot. This is because parking spaces are at a premium over there. Take a close look at the bumpers of any car in Europe, especially Italy and France, and you'll see all the dents and scratches from these types of parking maneuvers.

Yeah, but they normally touch the other cars, the gutter, people on the footpath, etc, etc. :

i work for stillwells and i repaired most of the vehicles from the car yard. there were 12 vehicles which were damaged. 3 cars were written off from the car yard. the other 9 were repaired. the pursuit ute was impounded and the owner isn't covered by insurance. the owner was drag racing a statsman and had his gf in the car with him. the drivers door and battery was found 200 meters away on the other side of the road. it happened around 5pm (peak hour traffic)

Is there not a battery still in the ute in the first pic? Or is it something that just looks like a battery?

i believe a lot of people over there leave their handbrake off when parked for exactly the same reason?

that looks like the fuse/ relay panel less the cover, that normally sits between the battery and shock tower.

You can see the red positive battery lead hanging down the front in the first pic, so it looks like the battery is gone.

However, that triangular shaped thing on the footpath kinda reminds me of the front of a speed camera - possible?

No worries - I thought the same thing when I saw the fuse cover, but then couldn't work out why it had about 10 water fill plugs!

I think the 2nd pic of the ute married with the pole needs to be framed! Oh to classic!

However the one of the HSV VY Clubsport test drive gone wrong, takes the cake still.
