Default Clutch pedal sounds

I've tried searching for the answer to this odd question but nothing matched it quite right.....

When I let my clutch out a sound like a wire against a spring can be heard - sort of a 'sproing' sound like an old chest freezer spring (sorry, not good at impressions!). Going in the clutch doesn't make this sound, only on the outstroke. Have checked the spring at the top of the pedal, and there is nothing interfering with the spring, the cable is nice and new, and adjusted nicely.

Anyone have any ideas what's making the noise?? A few sets of lights in town and the noise soon gets on your nerves!!

I can't exactly say for an AU (I've never owned one), but from the EA up the pedal box cracks & the clutch pedal rubs against the pedal box, it also puts the clutch pedal out of allignment & the clutch inner cable rubs against the outside covering. This problem is well known in the EA-ED models, check around the pedal box where the shaft goes though the pedal arm. If it's cracked it will need to be taken out & repaired/replaced by a smash repairer, you'll also need to replace the cable as the cable wears where it grinds the inner & outer parts together.
The BA up don't seem to have this problem as the clutch is now hydraulic. With no cable pulling against it & no pressure from the clutch pressure plate there is less pressure put on the pedal box.

This may not be the problem, but if the clutch pedal is out of alignment the spring could be catching & moving in it's mounts as the pedal comes back out, making the sound you said.

Nah, firewall isn't cracked, maybe the spring needs some lube on it?? Any special type of lube that is for springs?

I didn't say the firewall. The pedal box is totaly seperate from the firewall.

The pedal box sits against the firewall but the pedals connect to the pedal box.

If you think it's not cracked though try some lube on the spring, spray a bit of WD40 (or similar) & see if that works. If not try some Vasoline or grease.

Sorry I didn't pick that up before - I've been looking at so many posts about the firewall cracking that I was confused! : I'll have a look tonight and see if the pedal box is cracked anywhere...

Found out exactly what is going on down there....

Where the spring goes through an eyelet on the firewall, there is no bushes or silione to stop the bare spring rubbing on the metal of the eyelet. The pedal end of the spring has a good plastic bush on it to stop rubbin gon the pedal. I put a bit of good ol' Vaseline over the firewall end, and three pumps of the pedal later and the squeak is gone! Vaseline has yet another use! :

Gonna try removing the spring and hooking some heatshrink over the problem end, or machine up a bush from some oil impregnated plastic when I get a chance, and see if I can find a long term solution.
