Hi all, in the family we have a series 2 au falcon forte petrol, its just hit 62,000kms last month and my mother noticed something weird in it today. She took it for a drive from our place to the shops 5mins away, when she left the fuel gauge showed it was dead on half and he dte was flashing stating their was only 80kms of fuel left. She drove to the shops and back and reached home with the fuel gauge between a quarter and halfway mark from about 12kms of driving MAX, the dte also showd it had 78kms left.
Could this be a faulty o2 sensor, i have never replaced it since new, or could it be the gauge, or the computer just confusing itself (if they can do that). all help would be great. cheers

Sounds like the fuel sender is playing up ... and of the petrol models ... it's intake I think as well.
It's a common cause on the LPG models ... but they use different senders. Orther than that ... it maybe a dodgy connection from the loom to the tank cause weird signals and sending the impedance out of range. It takes a while for the gauge to sweep as well ... I read in a manual somewhere that it take a full 15 minutes to do a full sweep of the gauge as it is buffered.

cheers for that info, ive put in a new o2 sensor and a large upper snorkle, today just for the sake of things anyway. The car has never seen a freeway since 2005. Might take it for a nice good long drive aswell. See if their are any slight changes at least.

Just looking at the kays ... and that's bugger all for a Series II.
Have your parents had it since new???? If it's just a stop-start around town sort of vehicle .... a good run on the freeway will do it good.

Hey mate, yeah my parents bought it new. Thats what i was thinking, needs a good highway trip. Its just been around town for the last few years. I need to stretch her legs a bit.
