Default Any acceleration figures with the LS3 6.2 litre?

Anybody know the acceleration figures in the HSV range with the new LS3 6.2 litre that went on sale in April?

I took a 6.0 auto and a 6.2 manual for a test drive the other week. Didn't notice too much difference when accelerating onto free way and both hit the same sort of speed. Sorry don't know actual times though.

Probably not much. They're torque restricted because HSV use wimpy gearboxes. The 10kW won't do as much as if the full 575Nm were allowed to play would...

Though looking at the Corvette's, LS2 (400hp 400ftlb or 299kW 542Nm) vs LS3 (430hp 424ftlb or 321kW 575Nm)...

The LS2 C6 pulls 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and does the quarter in 12.6.

The LS3 C6 pulls 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and does the quarter in 12.5.

Probably not even a tenth of a second in it.

Will be interesting to see how they go with a full weight VE, will probably still beat the FG GT-P though, I hope the GT-P can beat it 0-100km though, the LS3 can have the 1/4.

No acceleration figures here but a dyno result (231.5rwkw) off ls1.com.au

Using the advanced OBDII logging feature of the Mainline dyno we were able to take a 'window' into the factory management system and plot Wide Open Throttle ignition timing as well as measure the Air Fuel Ratio to see exactly how 'in the slot' HSV had got this thing....

There certainly wont be massive gains in tuning these cars as the air fuel ratios are what most tuners would consider to be 'spot on perfect' and as can be seen from the timing curve there is some thought that has been putting into maximising both power and torque while minimising the chances of midrange detonation

Overall.....interesting. The car certainbly drives well, but its not as though you would notice the extra 10kw over the previous LS2 engine when hidden in 1800kg plus worth of motor car. While the LS3 certainly has plenty of poke it still isnt a match for top line European performance V8 of the same capacity. Tuning and particularly twin turbocharging results for this engine should be interesting

Maybe the FG GT dyno result will trickle out soon too?

This gaffa tape is killing me!

The FG F6 is going to blow this thing away.

I think also that the FG XR6 Turbo will still be quicker than the LS3 just like it is of the 6.0 HSV. You would be a very happy FG XR6 Turbo owner knowing that your car is a "bread and butter" sedan and it beats a "premium" performance car that cost 20 grand more and has 47 more kilowatts! :-)

It's the torque that makes all the difference, the XR6T's have 533Nm@2000rpm, that's more than what a VE SS 6 Litre V8 makes at 4400rpm!

The F6 has 565Nm@1950rpm, the in-gear acceleration will be like having rockets strapped to you car!!

All comes down to torque and when it comes on does it?
How can the F6 hit that much torque so low down? Must have virtually no lag at all???

That's why Ford downsized the turbo.

Yeh I know they downsized it, but can it make that much difference with lag? I know a bigger hairdryer will have more lag than a smaller hairdryer, but the turbo on the FG isn't that much smaller is it?

also upped the compression a bit, so even b4 the turbo comes on the motor by itself is already making more

They also reduced the piping length by more than 70cm, which results in less lag.

Always amazes me how the GM powerplants always make much less RWKW than the FORD units. The new LS3 barely makes more than the B series 290 Boss...........????

The TORQUE and HP under the curve however is V good..........I guess this is where the difference in the stock motors is. The B series BOSS is peakier and combined with that joke of a rear end 2.7 gearing in the auto....... :

Hopefully the new 315 will spread the TORQUE and HP more evenly to finally overtake the LS powerplant for acceleration and in gear driveability.........from stock.

To attempt to answer the question. Youde think a 6.2 would have to be able to run a 13.0 or 13.1 Surely, perhaps even 12.99.

I suppose we'll find out very soon when Wheels and Motor get their hands on them.

Drive.com.au couldn’t match the sub-five-second acceleration claim during our own independent testing using a satellite-based timing computer called a Driftbox. The best Drive managed in an HSV Senator with an automatic transmission on a warm-ish day was 5.6 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint.
Maybe a manual on a cold night would be more to Toby Hagon's liking? The twit sure didn't help the XR8's cause by shifting correctly did he?

Mid 5's sounds about right for a big heavy HSV.
